Hi--Im hoping someone can shed some light on why or why I shouldnt do this. I am flying out of Philly in May and the flights are HIGH. Or they are 8PM takeoff and 6:30AMdepart.
I was gonna wait for SW but I am getting nervous. Airtran has a great flight from orlando (coming home)that I am afraid of losing but no great flights from philly.
has anyone ever booked one leg of their trip and waited for another good deal for the other?
Thanks in advance! I have been lurking and learning for a while from you guys!

This fall for the first time, I booked one leg for Southwest using a DING fare - and then waited for a good deal on the return flight. Since we were flying out the end of October, and back the beginning of November - it worked for us. I wouldn't do it for a peak travel time. Are you traveling around Easter? Spring Break (March - 3rd week) is a big travel time from my town. I booked those fares when they first opened up. I can never find a good direct flight deal that time of year.

I just found a great flight with USair at a great time at an average price.. Are there any reasons not to book two separate airlines for going and returning? The times are great for us 11:15am depart and 6:30pm coming home. The total would be $250RT and I am flying with 6 people. Should I do it or wait for SW? These times are great and I dont know how much longer I should wait to get good rates AND times for 6. Any advice??

I'm booking 3 one ways now.

Alb to Balt - got a good rate for the Wed before Thanksgiving and it is NOT the last flight out.

Then going Dulles to MCO - there do not seem to be many dings from Dulles - just recently starting flying out of Dulles. Rate is OK not great

Waiting for a good rate for MCO back to Alb

We booked OW on different airlines last Dec. We had booked ow flights down and back with SWA, but the SONG had a great fare and better flight time to go down, so I cancelled the SWA (and used the credit later) and flew BDL-MCO on Song and back on SWA. Personally, the only airline I would count on getting a decent OW fare is SWA (Or one of the other discount carriers - they're not in may market so I don't think about them). So in yur case, yes book the good fare down and wait for SWa for the return.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies! I chickened out on the wait and booked USair going and Airtran coming home. The price was decent. Im sure that if i waited I would get better but my sanity and no longer checking flight schedules like a maniac 4x a day is worth a lot too!! :thumbsup2
now onto my ADR's.......... :confused3
