Buy at the First DVC You Stayed?

Was your first DVC contract at the first DVC resort you stayed at?

So my wife and I have a theory that many people often buy their first DVC contract from the first DVC resort they stayed out.

Well we bought DVC without ever having stayed at one, then had our first stay where we bought, so…
No wait! I’m totally wrong. We stayed at the treehouses before we bought in. We actually bought into CCV, then after that first stay on our own points (at CCV) we bought a second contract at SSR.

Having stayed at OKW and BWV in the late 90’s my family bought at HHI in 2001. 21 years later and I’ve literally never set foot at our home resort.

I voted no but it's true on a technicality. We bought Poly as our first DVC. It was our favorite resort to visit but we had never stayed there, so I think we fall into the "No" group with this poll was intended.

However, as a very young child my first WDW trip was at the Poly. I have no memory of it except two+ decades of my mother complaining about how dark the rooms were. Later childhood stays were mostly Beach Club.

In fact, grownup me had not stayed in any DVC resorts prior to purchasing DVC. Even all of our Deluxe stays were at Yacht Club, the lone Deluxe without a DVC counterpart.

We stayed in a 2br bcv in 2020 and are closing on our poly this month. We've only stayed at bcv but loved poly the most out of all the ones we toured.

We also plan on buying Poly2 when available

No, I had never stayed onsite before I bought into DVC. My first contracts were at SSR and I haven't stayed there yet. I've sold those contracts (bad UY for me) and bought into VGF which I have stayed at. I also bought 2 BWV contracts before ever staying there. But I love the location as I can walk to 2 parks and we have stayed there now and definitely love it.

I voted yes, then read your post and remembered I had a similar situation!

In 2012, a friend gifted me a night at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. In 2018, I bought DVC at Polynesian, which I had visited many times but had not yet stayed. After buying, I stayed at Polynesian for the first time. I loved it and still do.

Growing up, we stayed mostly at Yacht & Beach Club, so the nostalgia factor had me leaning towards BCV, but I couldn't justify the cost, given the contract length.

My family also stayed once at the Villas at the Disney Institute, which was largely torn down to make way for Saratoga Springs. The unit we stayed in was a one bedroom but I believe the neighborhood was known as the bungalows. I think the current Congress Park is in the same area.

We only stayed at BLT. We almost purchased at AKL but decided on CCV for the 11-month window during Christmas and longer contract.

I was so excited to stay at BLT and it was a one and done for us.

We stayed VGF this year as a rental, and quickly decided DVC was for us. Ended up offering at Riviera resale because we loved the resort and the price/2070 contract was a great combo. Here’s to hoping this contract closes with no issues.

We are a "no" on this one. We bought at BWV without ever having stayed in a DVC resort and our first stay was at OKW.

Our onsite stays were at "Dixie Landings" family of five/moderate - now POR.

Same for us except our first stay was at SSR. Will finally get to stay BWV in April... then 2 more times after that next year. With the length of contract on that one, we're planning to stay at BWV exclusively as long as we can make it work.

I guess I’m one of the rarer “yes” votes. We stayed at BWV in a one bedroom on cash, then bought into DVC. They were pushing sales of Copper Creek at the time but we only wanted to buy Boardwalk due to being able to walk to two parks. Rep didn’t tell us we could buy direct from them so we went resale.

No. We bought before we stayed at any DVC resort. To be fair, BWV & OKW were the only on-site DVC resorts at the time, LOL.

Same for us.....Wilderness Lodge Villas were getting ready to open/sell within a month or so

Edit: My first DVC rental was Boardwalk. It was nicer then, or maybe I wouldn't have bought in at all. But nope, not buying Boardwalk, at least not until it starts dropping.

Sort-of yes in that we'd stayed at the GF several times but never at any DVC resort.

In fact, hadn't ever been in VGF at all when we bought there.

We figured as much as we loved the GF, we'd like VGF. Very true financially but not so much otherwise as spoiled as we'd been by the GF niceties. For instance, silly as this is, I miss the turndown service. :snooty:
