If we buy our AP (deluxe) this Saturday can we still get in even though it is blacked out? I remember we did this before. Also are we basically stuck in one park and cannot re-enter that day?

Blockout Days never apply on your first visit. You are allowed to park hop all you want.

And if for some reason you are worried about this, just buy a one day ticket and upgrade it at some point during the day

This.

Buy a parkhopper on Saturday. Before the park closes, upgrade to an AP.

We just ran into this back in April. We actually explained to the people at the ticket counter that we were staying 4 days, and that the Saturday of our trip was a blockout day on the Deluxe AP which we wanted to buy. We were going to buy parkhoppers and upgrade on the last day, but they didn't even require us to do that, they printed us out a blockout ticket for the Saturday and let us buy the APs then and there (probably to get us hooked up for the higher amount up front ;) )

Except now, the Blockout ticket no longer is offered.

Given that they have eliminated the blockout day tickets for AP holders, I'm curious to see if this has impacted the ability to activate an AP on a given day. Folks used to say they were given a blockout day ticket to let them enter the park on the day they activated the AP if the AP was blocked out, but now do they issue a one day park hopper instead?

Either way, I agree that it's probably the easiest to buy a one day park hopper on Saturday and then upgrade at the end of the day. You won't get the discounts (shopping or dining) on Saturday, but that's the trade-off.

I wonder if you can enter the park if you buy a new AP on a blockout day at all anymore. Given the recent changes, I wouldn't be surprised.

We ended up buying our one day tickets and upgrading them to APs before we left (it was a blackout day).

Last time they had to let us in for the photos. Ill ask at the ticket gate the options they have. Ill just buy a hopper for us for the weekend then just upgrade before the trip is done. Will update with what they say. Thanks!

If you are going to be there for 3 or more days, it might be better to buy a hopper and upgrade, so you get the Magic Morning.
