Maybe you haven’t heard of him, but this traitor had it coming. (Read the details here.)

Lt. Cmdr. Charles Swift was recently denied a promotion and as a result must now resign from the Navy. Good riddance I say. He didn’t deserve the promotion. In fact if I had it my way, he would be charged with treason and made to spend his sentence at Guantanamo Bay.

You see Mr. Swift is a military lawyer who was assigned to defend an enemy combatant the US picked up in Afghanistan. The Lt. Cmdr. was supposed to get this guy to plead guilty so he could be sent to Guantanamo Bay for as long as our glorious president saw fit to leave him there.

But could Lt. Cmdr. Swift do this much for his country? Nope. Instead he starts to think for himself and comes to the astounding conclusion that throwing people in jail without charging them may be against the laws of the United States. I know, this is crazy talk. Everyone tried to ignore Mr. Swift, but he kept plugging away at this traitorous claim anyway.

Eventually Lt. Cmdr. Swift went all the way to the Supreme Court and actually won. What a bunch of communists. Since when is it illegal to treat people like they have no rights? It’s almost as if the Supreme Court knows of the existence of some piece of paper where these so called “rights” have been written down. There is nothing more despicable than liberal judges who are slaves to the law.

Anyway, in retaliation for following orders to defend his client, Mr. Swift was immediately denied a promotion and must now resign from the Navy. I think you will all agree that the Lt. Cmdr had it coming. When he was ordered to do his “duty”, no one actually expected him to do his “duty”.

America doesn’t need courageous people who are willing to follow their convictions despite the possibility of negative consequences. America requires yes-men who know how to toady up to their bosses and not rock the boat. That’s how America became great in the first place.

Dude, my sarcasm detector just detonated. You SO owe me another one.

I saw this last week and was very disappointed. This man did his professional and ethical duty and was punished for it.

I have to say that I am pleased with the ethics and professionalism of the JAG corp with respect to the Geneva Convention and the Guantanamo issues. The JAG corp has repeatedly stood up to the bush administration and demanded that the bushies do the right thing. This poor guy is being punished for doing his ethical duty.

Dont forget "If you're not with us, you're against us"- Prez (aka King) Bush

Then came the death of Habeas Corpus, and the constitution is suddenly becoming undone, its amazing how it all worked ok back in the previous "wars" which were much more dangerous to America.

Almost forgot, he's also the President who was quoted as saying “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face. It’s just a *******ed piece of paper!”

Woop woop woop (siren sound). This is a political thread and I ain't gonna go there. Mossman has duped me before. He/she/it is good.

I'm pretty sure Lt Cmdr Swift's superior officer said something like this:

Charlie, we want you to vigorously defend this guy (wink, wink)

Now, as we all know, it's the responsibility of every officer to watch for the wink. The wink is all-powerful. If Lt Cmdr Swift was truly the kind of officer that should have been promoted, he would have respected the wink, given up on his client and let him rot illegally in Guantanamo Bay. The wink clearly takes precedence over your sworn duty. Everyone knows that.

So nobody should be feeling sorry for Lt Cmdr Swift.

I just want to add how nice it is to be living in a country that has freed itself from this type of backwards thinking. I remember going to school and having to sit through all that liberal propaganda that tried to make heroes from normal people just because they stood up for what is right. What a load of crap. Now we finally have a President who understands that the courageous must be punished, while yes men are rewarded.

For too long political hacks have been reviled in the United States. It’s nice that cowardly sycophants are finally getting their proper due. Thank-you Mr. Bush, thank-you for finally getting it right.

Thank God for the Supreme Court and all of those justices appointed by the republicans. President Bush specifically!

MossMan, I think you're being too harsh on Charlie. After all, his boss could have had a twitch in his eye and poor Charlie might not have understood it to be the "wink". Or, maybe it was a wink similar to what Mark Foley probably gave male pages and poor Charlie just didn't want to go there. ;)

Just proof that this is Bill Clinton's fault. If he hadn't allowed gays in the military, everyone would know what that wink was about. Poor guy probably thought he was being hit on.

Don't you know, everything that goes wrong is Clinton's fault. I am still waiting to see Joe or Dawnie blame the plane crash yesterday on Clinton. It is only a matter of time.

Hey Doc,

You haven't read CNN today. The whole Foley thing is Ted Kennedy's fault ('cause noone DIED from Foleys IM's.....).

:rotfl: :rotfl2: Of course. I still want to see the link between the plane crash and President Clinton. It is only a matter of time before he is blamed. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Heard about the Swift story last week. (So ironic a name after the 2004 smear campaign.)

It really is sad.

I'm waiting for all those who say they support the troops to come out in defense of this man who was doing his job.

Just disgusting...this is the same reason I recently left the military. Personal ethics and standing up for integrity get you no where in the boys club thats now running this country.

Lt. Commander Swift was on Countdown tonight. It was a good episode. It is unbelievable that anyone could think that it was proper or ethical to tell any lawyer that they could represent a client conditioned on that client agreeing to pled guilty. This officer is a credit to the legal professional. He upheld his ethical duties and is paying the price by a petty and smalll bush administration. It is too bad that the bush administration is totally without honor or ethics.
