Bush the Masseur

Its clear what he really thinks about women in power. Can you imagine him doing that to Tony Blair or Vladimir Putin? (that might actually be really amusing, Putin would probably have him in a headlock before he knew it!) And the way he calls Dr. Rice, "Condi" makes my blood boil!!

His apologists will say that he is just being "friendly" but I agree with creepy!

he's not sexist... he's having fun with a friend. he's an informal person and he's joking around. if bush saved the planet from an alien invasion of martians you'd criticize him for being anti-martian.

Only if he massaged them. ;)

I don't like it either. Trust me, it's not a Texas thing.

:lmao: OMG! Her reaction is priceless! It's pretty clear she doesn't consider him a close enough friend to do something like that!

Patronizing, yes, but I think those who call it a "grope" are overreacting.

I don't know, I saw some pictures of them together the other day that really showed their close (appropriate) relationship. I couldn't find it today, but came across this video. After he squeezes her shoulders, she smiles. Then, see the pics for earlier that day. It seems as if they actually do have a close relationship.

Was that supposed to make sense? :confused3

It was clearly unwanted physical contact, I don't get the impression that he and Chancellor Merkel are close enough for him to walk up and give her a shoulder rub.

I still agree with my FIL that the only reason he's so "close" with "Condi" is that they have a "special" relationship. :smokin:

bloggers are calling it "the presidential groping"

I can't watch that video without laughing. and I laugh for at least five minutes after its over. I swear it looked like he attacked the woman. She should have slapped him.

I'm very introverted and I have a high level of nuroticism (no I'm not crazy) but I'm overly physically sensitive and if someone lays their hand on my ribs, shoulders or collerbone it causes physical pain. if someone did that to me it would probably bring me to tears. You really shouldn't go around touching people. You could hurt them without actually meaning to.

I watched this video and do not believe that the peck on the cheek shows how close they are. In Europe, they do greet people with kisses on the cheek. Its doesn't mean they are close personal friends. :confused3 While I wouldn't go so far as to call it a grope it was definitely inappropriate behavior. I agree with the poster that said if he wouldn't do that to Tony Blair he shouldn't be doing it to Ms. Merkel. Doesn't he have handlers that can reel him in or something? :confused3

How do you explain the FACT that she has to throw his hands off her with a violent and pointed physical action. Do you REALLY think she LIKED his touching her in that familiar way? His mother must be ready to kill him, first he talks with food in his mouth while uttering crude words in public; then this. As a parent, I can tell you I am raising my child to have better manners and to be more respectful of others. Matter of fact: my 11yo son behaves better than George W Bush in public. I even showed him the clip so he understands that this type of behavior is NOT appropriate. Pretty bad when you can use the POTUS for this type of manners lesson.

This is Merkel's first G8 summit. Maybe it was just GWB's way of saying "welcome to the club; you're among friends." Maybe he noticed she seemed tense and guarded and was trying to get her to relax. It's hard to tell from short and edited clips in the links without any original audio. I'm having a hard time telling Merkel's reaction was that of surprise, anger, or a combination.

Any way you look at it, it was completely inappropriate, no matter what his intentions were, and he shouldn't have done it, cameras or no cameras. Heck, even Clinton kept his hands to himself with the cameras around.

He really needs to take some lessons from Clinton. Now, THAT is a man who knows how to treat women. :thumbsup2

This act is totally unacceptable ( that with talking with food in your mouth a world summit( well , this not even fine at sunday dinner at my mother's !) He is the leader of the free world , he is the leader of , according to his supporters, the greatest country on earth ( if not the universe !). I dont care that he tries to project the image of the guy next door. I dont expexct the guy next door to go at the G8 summit and try to solve the world problems. Being nice and sympatique ( I dont not the english word) should not equal looking like you were raised by pigs.

At the same time , we have to realised that this man had is first passport when he became president of the USA. This son of one the most influencial , and yes , rich familly in the USA first when abroad while president of the USA. No wonder he does not understand customs in another country.

Other quotes from president Bush at the summit: "What seemed to interest him most at that farewell get together of leaders bitterly divided over a disintegrating Mideast was not some last-minute proposal for peace but rather the fact that it would take China President Hu Jintao eight hours to fly home from St. Petersburg to Beijing.

Bush had started the exchange by noting, absurdly, that, “This is your neighborhood, doesn’t take you long to get home.” Uh, yeah, incurious George, sure thing. Never mind that St. Petersburg is in Europe, on Russia’s northwestern corner, due north of Turkey, and Beijing is on the eastern edge of mainland Asia.

“You, eight hours? Me too. Russia’s a big country and you’re a big country,” he said when corrected, sounding for all the world like an earnest kindergartner, processing new information. “Russia’s big and so is China.”

Oh great. Another reason to bash Bush.

However, from the brief clip it does appear inappropriate and she didn't like it. But it's not the end of the world. That's coming next month.

The man continues to be an embarrassment .

When will it all end? In November I hope, then let the hearings begin! :stir:
