Bush can just "taste" the coming spilling of American and Iraqi blood....

You've sent me off to war-invited me to leave our country-asked me to go away so many times.

Sorry, but I don't think I have EVER said that anyone should leave this country because they disagree with the war, or with anything else for that matter. I have said that I don't understand why people that dislike everything this country does would want to stay, but I don't think that disagreeing with policy puts one into that category. If you can find ANYWHERE that I have done such a thing, I'll gladly apologize, but I doubt that you will.

Please try not to get so mad about it- you might explode and that would
not be good.

I'm not mad at all - just making my points, like everyone else on this thread.

This is sad news, with a heavy heart I watch soldiers leave their families.

No one wants to see innocent men and woman leave their families, maybe never to re turn, but what are we suppose to do. Sit back and watch this lunatic distroy the world we know. He could care less about his own people's lives never mind others.

This thread only proves that no one knows how to stop Saddam. He a dictator who could care less if he distroys a path though the whole world for fame and glory. Anyone who seeks weapons of destruction isn't doing it for their country. There obtaining these weapons to use on others with destroying Americans as their number one goal.

I have tears in my eyes for these solders and their families and a sadness in my heart for people who think this is for political gain. Sure I have doubt, we all have doubt. Is this the answer? I have to put my faith and trust in our leaders, and pray they are making the right choices.

Hugs Mamu....these are very difficult times....I wish I had all the answers, I don't... I speak from my heart and I do have faith and hope which are a great comfort at times like this..

This will be a no win situation!! Lives will be lost, economies ruined and countries destroyed. This will not be a repeat of the Gulf War. Too many hornets nests have been stirred and all are ready to attack. Is it going to be worth the price we pay?? Only time will tell. This war will last for years. Our children will only know war, death and destruction in thier lives. This truely is a sad time that we live in.

Mamu,
Please try and keep your heart in good spirit. Our leaders will make the right decision for the well being of our great country. Out of all the conflicts this nation has fought there has not been one that wasn’t met with some or a lot of opposition from its own people. If you remember there was even opposition for a retaliation on the Taliban government and Al Quaida after Sep. 11th. Opposition helps to show the humanity of our country, there is nothing wrong with that. I think our nation has shown great restraint over the past two years in regards to foreign policy. Imagine the response other countries would have made if they had been in our shoes.

Eros posted a question on the debate board last week that no one answered, including myself. I think the question was “How do you think Saudi Arabia would have reacted if it had been 19 Americans who flew planes into their building, killing their people?” I think Saudi Arabia would have no longer wished to be our ally and would consider us a hostile country expelling all Americans from their borders. That is American restraint. We understood that we were not being attacked by their government, but by a radical group of their population that is currently running rampant in the Middle East. The Sultan of Saudi Arabia is not a terrorist, Saddam Hussein is. This beast has had a multiple chances to abide by the sanctions brought against him after the Gulf War, and he has opposed every one of them. He tried to assassinate the leader of our country, he had his soldiers set up rape camps during his occupation of Kuwait, he threw the last UN inspectors out of his country and we did nothing, he gives money as a incentive to the families of suicide bombers in Palestine. If he is not a threat today we need to eliminate him. If he will not be a threat until three months from now, we need to eliminate him. If he will not be a threat for ten years we need to eliminate him. He is and will always be a threat to our way of life. If that monster has not already aided terrorist in plotting to attack America it is only because the opportunity has not been convenient. I do not have any children yet, so it is hard for me to empathize with those of you who do and are worried about war. Removing Saddam from power now while we can, in my opinion is removing one of many great threats that will face the future children of our nation. I have friends in the military that understand this; some of you have children in the military that understand this. I thank God that right now we have a leader in office who also understands this! Saddam Hussein and the threat his regime poses to the future peace of the world we live in must be stopped!

Snowball22- what you said is false and will not happen. You do not know what you are talking about. All you are doing is trying to get your point across with a skewed sense of fear and panic.

It will? I can certainly see an occupation lasting for years, but not the war. And I'm much more fearful of what my children will see if we do nothing than I am of what they will see as a result of the war.

Palmrc--Before you pass judgement on me let me tell you that I had a visit from my uncle over the holidays who is in "Intelligence". He has been with the AirForce for years. I asked him about the situation in Iraq. He could not say alot but what he did say was this: "He said that this will be a war that could last for at least 10 years. He looked at my kids and said that they will know what war is for the rest of thier youth and got choked up." He said that Al Quada is intertwined with Iraq and many other countries out there. He also said that North Korea is a definate problem. What are you calling a lie? There will be deaths. Economies will be effected. War does effect the financial sector of the world. Do you remember WWII? How do you know what is going to happen with this war? Are you privy to information on how long it is going to last??????

Are you privy to information on how long it is going to last??????

I don't know that anyone is privy to how long it is going to last. But I can't imagine how in the world Iraq would be able to fight back against the United States for 10 years...or even one year, for that matter.

And sorry, but I'm much more concerned about my children being blown up here in DC than I am about them hearing about a war in Iraq.

I've tried to read all the replies to this very intereting thread but i may have missed if this bit of info has been stated.

It was just announced that all the Kmarts and Walmarts in Iraq will be closing today and reopening as.....................

TARGETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I know this is a very serious subject which I side with most posters on this thread but thought I would toss on what some may call poor humor.

It may be poor humor, but it made me giggle anyway!!

DISCLAIMER: The fact that I giggled does not mean that I in any way advocate the targeting of civilian retail stores, Target or otherwise.

Snowball22- WW2 Started on September 1, 1939 when the Germans invaded Poland. We (America) entered the war on December 8, 1941, the day after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. WW2 finally ended on August 15, 1945 with the Emperor of Japan announcing their surrender. We fought the largest war in the history of our time on multiple fronts for almost 4 Years.
A lot has changed since then.
On Feb. 22, 1991 the President of The United States sent his troops to war against the 4th largest army in the world! In only four days the enemy was defeated (Hence the nick name "The hundred hour war"). There is absolutely no way that a war involving America would last 10 years in the Middle East, even if we had to fight every country there. In case you didn’t now as weak as Iraq is now it is still the biggest army in that area. That is not saying much for the countries around it. Please take some time and look at this web site interviewing the chief Iraqi intelligence officer under Saddam Hussein during the Gulf War. I hope this will help put things in perspective.

Who wants to go to Disney World! Yaaaa!!

Death and Destruction reigned on 9-11-01. I hope my children never have to live through another day like September 11, 2001. That's what I worry about.... that's why I want us to root out terrorists and terrorist supporters where they are.

I found this to be relevant but scary. See http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...&u=/nm/20030107/ts_nm/iraq_un_casualties_dc_1
________________
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - As many as half a million Iraqis could require medical treatment as a result of serious injuries suffered in the early stages of a war on Iraq, U.N. emergency planners said in a document disclosed Tuesday.
The total includes some 100,000 expected to be injured as a direct result of combat and a further 400,000 wounded as an indirect result of the devastation, according to estimates prepared by the World Health Organization (news - web sites), the document said.
The confidential U.N. assessment was drafted a month ago but an edited version was posted Tuesday on the Web site of a British group opposed to sanctions on Iraq http://www.cam.ac.uk/societies/casi/info/undocs/war021210.pdf)
U.N. officials confirmed the authenticity of the document, which assumes that unlike the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites), a new war in Iraq would develop beyond an initial aerial bombardment into a large scale and protracted ground offensive.
"The resultant devastation would undoubtedly be great," the U.N. planners concluded. The estimates were based on material from several different U.N. organizations.
The U.N. staff has been quietly planning for months how to cope with the humanitarian fallout from a conflict in Iraq.
But the process has been kept largely under wraps for fear it might be interpreted as a sign the world body had concluded the weapons inspections now under way would fail to avert war.
The confidential assessment assumes that Iraqi oil production would be shut down and the Iraqi electricity network, railway and road transportation systems would be significantly damaged.
U.N. officials had previously disclosed that as many as 4.5 million to 9.5 million of Iraq's 26.5 million people could quickly need outside food to survive once an attack began.
HUGE HOMELESS PROBLEM
War would also produce a huge refugee problem, driving some 900,000 Iraqis into neighboring countries, with about 100,000 of those requiring immediate assistance as soon as they arrived, according to the U.N. estimate.
Another 2 million could be driven from their homes but remain inside Iraq, where access by relief agencies would be a particular problem due to the fighting, the planners say.
The U.N. arms inspections resumed last month, after a four-year hiatus, under a U.N. Security Council resolution giving Baghdad a final chance to eliminate any chemical, biological or nuclear weapons or face "serious consequences."
Chief arms inspector Hans Blix is due to provide an interim report to the Security Council on his findings Thursday. His first in-depth report is set for Jan. 27.
President Bush (news - web sites), who favors a "regime change" in Baghdad, has threatened to disarm Iraq through force if it fails to act on its own, although Washington says no decision has been made to go to war.
According to the assessment, Iraq can be expected to have four months' supply of basic medical supplies on hand at the start of a conflict. However, some key supplies would still likely be in short supply or nonexistent, it said.
Children under 5, pregnant women and mothers who are breast-feeding their infants "will be particularly vulnerable because of the likely absence of a functioning primary health care system in a post-conflict situation," it said.
"Furthermore, the outbreak of diseases in epidemic if not pandemic proportions is very likely," it said. "Diseases such as cholera and dysentery thrive in the environment ... When determining the requirement for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, these factors must be considered."

While an invastion of Iraq will be great for the Houston economy, I am still hoping that it will not happen
