Bus Service from Parks (esp. MGM) to DTD

DH and I were in WDW last week, and one day we wanted to go to DTD from MGM. There wasn't a DTD bus stop, so we asked the security people at the park entrance and they said that there wasn't a DTD bus, that we would need to go to a resort and then transfer. We decided to go to OKW and then we took a bus from there. We weren't in a hurry, so the extra time didn't bother us.

However, in January we are taking my brothers who have never been before, so it will be a much more structured trip. I have dinners at DTD planned after some park days, so I want to make sure I allow enough time for us to get there. Do any of the parks have direct bus service to DTD, or will I always have to transfer? Does it depend on time of day? Any help is appreciated!

There is no Disney transportation between the parks and DTD. It was discontinued many years ago becuase people were parking at DTD, hopping on a bus, and avoiding the parking fee at the parks.

It is not that bad. If you are at MK, walk or monorail over to the CR and take the DTD bus from there.

If at Epcot, leave throug the International Gateway and take the bus from BC.

If at MGM, take the boat to S/D and take the bus from there.

If time is really tight, I would suggest a taxi.

In addition to the previous suggestions, Old Key West is usually also an ideal transfer point. It's not crowded, and it's usually the shortest transfer point.

In addition to switching buses at OKW, one has the options of taking a boat from OKW to DTD, or even walking. I haven't done it myself but I don't think it's that long of a walk.

As far as I know, walking is not an option. I have not seen any walkways or paths... but I could be mistaken.

As for the boat... although its available, seating is extremely limited, and I personally would rather the folks paying to stay at OKW get first dibs on this privledge. Of course, if there is available room, then by all means. :)

You may be right, Tyler. I thought I remembered people on the DVC board mentioning a walking path from OKW to DTD. Probably just my imagination. If there WERE a path, it would be less than a mile, right?

I'm looking at some aerial views, and there are some waterways that prevent walking. Unless you can cut through the Golf Course? But I'm not sure even that would be possible (or worthwhile) At any rate, it would be like walking from the South Pointe bus stop to the Millers Road stop.

Wow, thanks for all the help guys! It's weird that I'd never noticed before the lack of bus service from the parks to DTD. Oh well, at least I know now.

I picked OKW for the transfer because I knew I was at least headed in the right direction and the line for their buses never seems very long. I guess that's what I'll keep doing.

I know that there is a boat between OKW and DTD, but there is some debate on the DVC boards whether non-OKW guests should use the boat. I also didn't know where the marina was, so last time we just took a bus. I have also heard that there is a walkway, but apparently it is over a mile long and not the easiest walk.

You could also transfer to PO Riverside and transfer via the buses or take the boat ride to DTD. The boat ride does take about 1/2 hour but it's really a relaxing and neat ride to DTD. It takes you by PO French Quarter and some the cabins along the river that Disney rents out. Some of those are really isolated if thats something that people like. Anyway just another option you might want to consider.

You may want to ask the question about the walkway over on the DVC board. I know members have posted walking to DTD from OKW. I can't remember which building it starts behind, one of the Southpoint buildings. I don't believe it's lit though, so you don't want to do it at night.

The DVC board can give you where and how to use the walkway. Personally I would only use that during the day and not when time is tight. Someone over at the DVC board used GPS to get the eact length of the walkway. I know Doc at the DVC board usually does it at least once each trip he makes to WDW.
