Bus service at BC Warning!!!

I just KNOW that somewhere among the legions of bright young IT types who work for the Mouse are people who could pull this off using the wireless network. I know for a fact that WDW has one of the most sophisticated wireless networks currently in existence; the company I work for runs some serious software on it. Our apps are huge.

I'm sure it could be done... for a cost. Whether Disney is willing to spend it, that's another story.

As for the wireless network, it seems to go down on an hourly basis -- especially when it rains. When MOD was first introduced, using wireless Palm Pilots, it was a disaster. The Palm Pilots relied on the network which was constantly going down. It was a nightmare. Our newer tablet PC's use the network, but do not rely on it to work. They just use the network to communicate allocation, travel and arrival times between tablets. Actual dispatches are generated dynamically.

Can anyone report on the bus situation in early December? Is this just a seasonal problem? Or do they run less busses in a slower season, so the problem is just as bad. This will be our first trip and we are staying at BWV and decided that because of the higher cost accommodations, we would forego the car rental. Is that a mistake?
Thanks
Diane.

It may or may not be a "mistake", but it's definitely a "gamble". BW is often the last stop after 2 or more other resorts, and sometimes there isn't room for everyone (or ANYONE) at BW. Anohter bus will be dispatched but it still means a delay. Judging from several posts on this subject, the worst time is the morning rush to the parks, esp for early entry at MK. If you like to get to the parks early or on time, you should reconsider getting a rental. If not going to travel at opening time, you may be OK with the buses.

Some bus stops are set up for multiple destinations; how does someone who sees people waiting at the stop know where they want to go?

Sounds like the Motorola Phones would be a good alternative to Palm Pilots. If you are a large company witha good sized contract, Motorola will BUILD a cell site (not a tower, but some sort of relay station which is inobtrusive) at your company at THEIR expense to guarantee good reception and service. They did this for the Fortune 200 I work for when we were unable to get service in one critical building.

Each driver could have one issued to them, they could report in when there are large crowds waiting or they see an accident or other thing which would cause a reroute.

I agree thatt he last few times I have stayed at the BWI/DOlphin the bus service was awful! Having to go to all those deluxe resorts is terrible!

We had better bus service at a moderate than a deluxe! Go figure ~ pay less have better service!
I did learn after the first day to go to the swan and get the bus there this way we got on it and had seats even! By the time it got to the BWI it was so packed no one else could get on! (and this was off season!)

We have Motorola two-way radios installed in every bus, and handheld units are carried by managers, coordinators, and dispatchers.

As for the radio repeater... it used to be located right where DAK is now. We had crystal clear reception. When it got moved to make room for the park, radio reception quality decreased.
