Bus Boarding Question

I have been to WDW probably 45+ times (lost count) but actually have never stayed at a WDW Resort. I'm MORE than excited to say that I'm FINALLY going to get my first on-site stay in early April!!!

Here's my question ... when you board a bus (let's just say from your resort to MK), do you have to flash your room card or other "document" to get on? Or let's say you're at the MK and you want to head to a resort to see their Christmas decorations or to go to a dinner, and you're not "staying" there, can you board the bus and go there? In other words, can just "anybody" get on the bus from anywhere? What do you "show" when you climb on board?

You don't have to show anything to get on the bus. They are open to all wdw visitors
