Bus accident Number 4 for the month.

There was a write up in our local paper on Sunday about the computers now int he Disney buses, and that the drivers find having to run a computer is really distracting while they're driving. The article pointed to this as a possible cause for all the recent accidents.

MagicBus, what do you think about the onboard computers?

The system is what it is, and it's being used pretty well by most drivers. It's not really a computer in the sense of what most people think a computer is. The small screen is very subtle and does not flash to the point where it's a distraction to the driver. If used properly by the driver and more importantly, at the right times, it does perform a lot of the non-driving tasks.
For me it was, and still is on some buses, more of a distraction to have to give the spiels while driving. It's the same thing as using a cell phone while driving.
Truck1 and the article point out some of the good and the bad of the system.
I don't believe it was or should be a factor in causing accidents. It's still the drivers responsibility to concentrate on the road no matter what.
Think of it as you do your GPS. You don't have to do anything it tells you unless you want to. It can be ignored or turned off.
If they asked all the drivers, should we keep it and improve it, or get rid of it? Most, not all, drivers would keep it.
When and if it's fully implemented, the driver will not have to do anything except look at the screen for the next route. I'm looking forward to that day. I hate having to listen to that pesky annoying radio all the time.

I believe the Resort has become so massive that the volume of drivers - both Bus and Car, naturally increases the chance of accidents. However - it may now be the time to create Bus Only routes...

Disney guests - both first timers and veterans - just get so darned excited about being there - nevermind concentrating on staying out of the way of Tour Buses, Disney Buses, other cars, looking for the correct signs, not missing a turn - because if you miss a turn you have a ways to go before you can correct the error...

I sometimes think driving through Manhattan is less stressful! lol

Basic advice - be careful when driving and walking alongside a road - no matter where you are

I agree to an extent that the resort is becoming massive, though bus only routes may not be the answer. Might be time to start thinking about a new mass transit system like light rail.

When I was driving the busses and the Superbus, I saw a lot of guests that shouldnt be breathing let alone driving. I still see it now.

I dont know how many times, Ive seen guests (still do)miss a turn because they are in the wrong lane, then cut across 3 lanes of traffic and nearly kill themselvs and 2 or 3 other car loads of people because they HAVE to get off at that exit. What ever happend to a U turn at the next intersection or looking to see if any one else is nearby before commiting what amounts to an act of stupidity?(Which is why when I drove I was usually in the far left hand lanes. Not many people can cut you off in the far lanes)If nothing else its job security for RCFD.Granted there are a few merges that were poorly planned and still in bad spots(the merge lane coming from north bound ECD to BVD where the lane becomes an exit for southbound ECD traffic comes to mind),but what ever happened to common sense and courtesy?

Yup, when people enter those magical gates, their brains turn to mush. It's the land of magic and nothing bad will happen. Part of me even believes that. I get that warm and fuzzy feeling as soon as we enter Disney property, but I still watch for signs, busses, people, etc. We have a 31ft MH and it's amazing how many times we have been cut off. At 31ft, we can't stop as quickly as a car, now imagine if it were a bus. People need to slow down and think. If you miss the exit, there will be another one. Take a chill, you are supposed to be on vacation.:sulley:

It actually starts at the Florida/Georgia border or for those flying - the Orlando Airport. I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed people stopping in the middle of the road to get that picture of the Walt Disney World arch that goes over the highway. Both on the main road that goes to the MK toll plaza and the one on SR536.

Also - I've seen costumed CM's driving their personal vehicles like maniacs on property. It's as if they just realized they had to be at work in like 2 minutes, and they live in Haines City - 30 minutes away. ZOOM!!

There is no such thing as personal responsibility or manners/consideration anymore. It's all about ME!!

I agree, it has definitely become an All About Me society. Now, what can be done to change that, or atleast inject a little bit of common sense.

I've heard/read that there is at least one CM personal vehicle accident EVERY SINGLE DAY on property.
