I am up again tonight. It seems that every night lately I go to sleep (at usually I manage to get to sleep first) and then wake up with the feeling that my legs and feet are "burning" If you feel my legs they are actually hot. Also, at the same time, they twitch. Not moving around but it feels like the muscles are twitching a little. I tried stretching them, calcium, rescue remedy and a few other things but I am getting so tired. Has anyone else had this problem and did you find a way to get rid of it? Also, I seem to have this problem more in the summer than the winter, although I do get it then sometimes as well. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you exericise before you go to bed?

There is a condition called restless legs syndrome (really!). Do some internet reading on that. You will find lots of suggestions for help.

Kristy.. I was going to say the same thing.. I do not have the burning but do have the twitchy feeling at night.. hate it..

My husband has this! His legs sometimes twitched so badly (before treatment), he would actually bounce himself out of bed!! I believe restless leg syndrome is a side effect of anemia. Are you ill in any other way?? I know sometimes, when his legs are only twitching a little, instead of taking the prescription med, which really knocks him on his tush, he takes Tylenol PM and it helps the legs to relax. Check with your doctor though, to make sure there is nothing else going on!

My SO suffers from that. He says it feels like his skin is crawling or something. He usually ends up having to take a hot bath to try to settle his legs down. I told him I think it's a circulation thing. He doesn't have burning in his legs though. I'd be more concerned with that than the crawling feeling (sounds more like a problem with varicose veins with the burning sensation).

I've had restless legs since I was a kid. I only recently found out that other people have this too! I was glad I wasn't the only one. I've tried everything - herbs, vitamins, nothing helped. The one thing that DOES work is if I lay down on the couch with the TV on and lift my legs up one at a time, and hold them there. Until it hurts. I alternate left and right legs until my legs are so wiped out, they relax. I can't do it in bed, because I need the TV to keep my mind on something else.

Try this, it could be the magic bullet.:D

all of the women in my family have RLS and no one can find any underlying reason (like anemia). it sucks. :(

thanks for the tip, gg. i will also pass that along to my mom and sister. :)

Thanks everyone. I did a search for burning legs and found out that there is a problem out there with burning legs. Unfortunately there really wasn't a lot of things you could do. They talked about vit. B 12, calcium, not exercising, and a list of homeopathic medicines. Tomorrow I will start vit. B complex. Oh the other thing it talked about was doing a liver detox. I know my naturalpath gave me some homeopathic medicine as well as a colon cleanse. I remember that in Jan. I had this and am just now starting to have the problems with my legs. Hopefully if I can get it, it will work for me again. The burning and the twitching is just driving me nuts.

IRON and potassium!!!!! I used to have the same problem and a daily multivitamin with iron and potassium fixed it. Maybe give it a try and see if it does the same for you? :)

When I was PG with DD my midwife told me to eat a banana every night before I went to bed. It was supposed to help with leg cramping and twitching.

Good Luck! :)

That sounds EXACTLY like what happens to my legs when I exercise... the twitching, the burning, the heat. They also itch horribly. It also happens to my hands when I go from a cold environment to a warm one too quickly. My hands will also turn red and swell. I've been told it's a circulation issue, and I've been told it's an allergy, related to the one that makes you sneeze when you walk out into the bright sun (always happens to me when I leave a cold mall and go out to a bright, hot parking lot). I've never heard of RLS. And I've been anemic at times, but not as of 2 weeks ago. Maybe I will try taking vitamins again.

I'll have to look at Iron and potassium. I know that my iron is low but not off the chart sort of. Normal is something like 4 -- 300 and my level is 5. Don't know about my potassium level.
