We used to be big fans of the counter service burgers up until last year with the zero trans fat "healthy" effort. We had the cheeseburgers at Cosmic Rays in March 2008 and were very dissapointed...

Are these still the burgers being served ? Or have they either changed back or improved?

We ate at Cosmic Rays last week, they were ok but not the greatest....not really interested in eating them again

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how the switch away from TRANS FATS could possibly alter how a HAMBURGER tastes? Can you elaborate please?

Trans fats are artificially produced fats, like partially hydrogenated soybean oil, that are used in lieu of naturally occurring animal fats in things like baked goods and processed foods, because they are cheaper.

A hamburger does NOT contain "trans fats". So, I'm not sure how the hamburgers could have possibly changed.

Are you talking about the switch to the whole grain bread? Or the meat itself?

And, just at Cosmic Ray's? Or everywhere? Because as far as I know, WDW's hamburgers (as well as ALL their food) is from the same supplier for the whole property, and comes from a central location, so a hamburger from Cosmic Ray's is the same as a hamburger from anywhere else on WDW property.

:confused3

I like the hamburgers at WDW, but I haven't been since 2007, and I'm going back in March, so I'm wondering what you're talking about. As far as I'm concerned, if all they've changed is the bread, that's a good thing. I HATE white bread...whole wheat is all good with me. It's about freaking time WDW started offering some fiber with their fast food. :thumbsup2

I didn't really notice a difference. What's different? Is it the bun?

I personally didn't notice any difference in the hamburgers in 2007 vs other than the wheat buns...which I am weird and happen to like. But at home we eat wheat or whole grain breads and pastas anyway.

Its a whole grain bun. Which I didn't have a problem with the taste its just the whole grain has less gluten so it falls apart more.

Sorry, but I cannot offer much sympathy here. Trans fats are the WORST:scared: Not sure why you would want to subject your body or your loved ones' bodies to them.:confused3

I understand people complaining about the switch from white bread to whole wheat or if they changed from a full fat item to low fat-the former are not the greatest for your body, BUT you are on vacation & wanting to splurge and blah blah blah....I totally get that. But I would prefer that WDW get rid of their trans fats altogether- they'll kill ya! :guilty:

while I would tend to agree, and wasn't expecting a big difference, I'm not sure how to describe it. The patties tasted almost... I dunno, boiled. And the buns were dry. We were really dissapointed is all I can say and the only thing that had changed was the "healthy initiative".

Yes they are still the same. They are okay .So now when we are in the MK we go to CHH I get the Tuna and Dh get's the Hummus a lil change from the burgers.

I noticed the same thing. I think what you tasted was the way they may have been prepared and also on what time of the day you purchased the burgher.

I used to work the grill at McD's so I have a bit of experience here. (oh and in my time we did not do it this way)

During peak times the burgers fly on and off the grill. You have an idea how many need to be on teh grill based upon how many people are in line and the time of day. So a burger is put on the grill and 5 to 6 minutes it off the grill on a bun and sold. As burgers are pulled off more are put on in a continuous cycle.

During slack times its very hard to judge the sales flow so what I have seen at other establishments is that they fry the burger until almost done and then put it in a pan sitting on the grill in some sort of burger juice (mm burger juice yumo) to keep it warm and when needed they throw it on the grill for a few seconds each side to crisp it up.

You may have gotten one that was in the burger juice and it would taste boiled.

So the way its cooked does effect the flavor.

As for the bun, its most likely the change to whole grain wheat.

Hmm... I dunno, I mean I worked at Wendy's when I was a teen, and I know what you mean by trying to predict the crowds, but I dunno. I think it would be more greasy and dry from sitting int he pan fora while, this wasn't exactly the case. The Bun on the other hand was quite dry.

That's the other thing, to the others who say it's just a whole wheat thing, we *only* eat whole weat bread at our house. Whole wheat does not mean dry... these buns were DRY. Of course, maybe we got a bad batch, I admit that, and I think it's pretty inevitable for our family that we'll try them again at least once when we're there again next year.
