Burbank airport vs. LAX

Between Burbank airport and LAX, which airport is closest to Disneyland? Specifically which one is easiest to get to for a 6 PM flight on a Tuesday night when leaving Disneyland? As much as I'd prefer to leave from Orange County airport my flight options are really just with these two airports.

LAX is closest. Traffic is crazy everywhere in LA... so make sure you leave ahead of time in order to accommodate traffic.

LAX also has the most direct route from Disney. Burbank is normally an easier airport to navigate. But being a weekday, you will run into horrid rush hour traffic. Rush hour doubles the commute if not more. Allow more room for other obstacles (accidents, lane closures, construction)

Another vote for LAX. I work directly across the street from LAX and I live in a nearby beach community so I drive to Disneyland all the time being an annual passholder. The communte is not that bad but considering the time you are arriving (6pm) you are going to hit traffic regardless and since LAX is closer and catching the freeway from the LAX airport is much easier than at BUR. Have you looked into Long Beach Airport?

To get to BUR by 5pm for a 6pm flight you would have to leave no later than 2:30 pm, and if there's traffic, which there will be, that could really be pushing it. If you need an alternate to LAX that isn't SNA, I'd look at LGB or even ONT first. ONT is also about 35 miles, but the traffic isn't quite as severe.

Burbank for a 1p flight from DL...sure...6P...no way...as the other have said LAX. You will hit a TON of traffic headed north at that time.

Thanks for the feedback. If I'm leaving LAX at PM, what time do I need to leave Disneyland to get there on time?

In the morning the security line to get into some of the terminals can be an hour, I rarely fly at night, so I'm not sure if it's the same. Which terminal and which airline can impact the answer. I'd figure 60-90 minutes to get there and 60-90 minutes for security. Additional if you're checking a bag. Call a shuttle company and see what they'd recommend for your airline and flight time.

Do people posting actually live in LA?

Disneyland to Burbank in the afternoon is largely against the rush hour flow of traffic. You can do it in 75 minutes easily on a weekday; 45-50 on a weekend. Also, if you do I-5N to 91W to 110N it is all carpool lanes and very quick, but note you'll need Fastrak or make sure your rental car company lets you use toll roads ( they'll charge your bill).

Yes.

75 minutes is the minimum travel time to Burbank. To catch a flight you need to leave extra time for things like an accident adding additional travel time, lines at the airport, and the airline closing the flight early.

I live a few miles north of LAX and don't think I have ever left DL between 2pm - 5pm and made it to LAX in 45 minutes. Using a carpool lane will usually net about 5 minutes, as you're still stuck behind the slowest car. Returning a rental car and checking a bag may take longer at LAX, depending on the airline, but at least you have more route options getting there. I'd rather leave really early for LAX than risk idling on the 5 as my plane takes off from BUR.
