How far away is it? We booked our flight today but because we get free flights with Southwest, we needed to go to this airport. Thanks in advance!

far. out of all the 'area' airports, this is the least desirable.

can't really give you numbers, but BUR is a bit north of LAX and from LAX, it's about 90-120 minutes depending on traffic.

SNA, LGB, ONT are all preferable to LAX and BUR in terms of distance. LAX does have the advantage in that it's a busy airport which means typically cheaper, more frequent flights and it also offers the disneyland express which is inexpensive motorcoach transportation

In the Los Angeles area, actual mileage means nothing. It's the traffic time that kills ya. You can spend an hour or more going just 10 miles depending on your location and time of day.

We happen to be flying out of Burbank because we like it so much (small and quiet and easy!!) but only using it because we're going to be doing other things in LA and visiting family before we leave.

Having said all that, if it's free it will be worth it to you, but be sure to factor in the distance and timing (trying to avoid peak traffic times for arrivals and departures if you can).

I do have experience traveling from Burbank... (Grew up there and parent's and sister live there)...

On a good day you can get to DL in around 40 minutes. During traffic, it can take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hours!

What time are you arriving?

I personally like Burbank airport. If I had a choice that's where I would be flying into. It's small, quaint and easy access to I-5 Straight shot down to DL.

It's the timing factor. I stay off the freeways between 6am to 9 or 930 and again between 3 and 7pm. If you are renting a car it's an easy drive.

Our flight arrives at noon and we're scheduled to take off at 1:30PM - both on Wednesdays. I'm thinking that while we'll have traffic, it should be better at that time than at rush hours. I was afraid of it being far out, but as someone mentioned, since it's free we can't complain too much. We're planning on renting a car and hoping to enjoy the drive.

Your arrival and departure times are quite good... There shouldn't be a problem with traffic at all.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Since you'll be in Burbank you might want to drive by the Disney Studios, just to say you did. ;-)

An alternative to driving is taking Amtrak - there's a station adjacent to BUR, and you can take the southbound Pacific Surfliner to the Anaheim station.

Oh how I wish we were still flying into Burbank!!! We had $10 Skybus tickets for June...total of $200 for a family of 5. Bye bye Skybus! Bye Bye Cheap Tickets! Hello LAX for $1100.

At least we found out now...I feel for all the people who got stranded!

I used to live in Studio City which isn't that far from Burbank. I would guess that it will be under an hour as long as you are on the road by 2P.

We flew into Burbank with Skybus :sad2: and we actually really liked it. It was an easy airport to navigate and it was not a bad ride at all to DLR. We liked it because we got to sight see along the way!

I flew in to Burbank at noon on a Monday in October, rented a car, drove down, parked, cleared security, bought my ticket, and was riding Buzz by 1:45.

I used to live in Burbank and pass by it on my way to DLR often. Your times of arrival and departure are perfect. There should be no problem with the traffic and it is very easy to get to DLR. You wont have to worry about changing freeways or finding the exit to DLR.

jlmarr: What a good suggestion. I heard the Amtrak is a fun and convenient ride.I have some friends that ride Amtrak o get to DLR. Have yet to try it myself, although I have taken the kids on Amtrak from Ventura to downtown LA. Now that was fun!

What they said! ^^ It's a whole different story during rush hour, but a mid-day arrival/departure should be fine. You may run into some slow-downs where freeways intersect and diverge (especially near downtown where I-5, I-10 and Fwy 60 all split off), but it should only be somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour driving time.

That's actually a really neat idea. If you're a die-hard Disney fan, it would be cool to see. They don't offer tours of the studios or anything like that, but you can at least say you did it. The Disney Studios is just a few miles south of Burbank airport.

Thank you all so much for putting my mind at ease a bit. DH hates driving in LA so we were instantly narrowed in options and Burbank was the only one that could accomodate our travel dates. I'm getting excited to start planning this vacation now!

I like LB, small airport, not to long, I never timed it but I can say it is less then 30 minutes, just easy :cool1:
