Bunk over bed/child fall out?

Hi all. We are in a cat 5, verandah stateroom (I think its called.) I am not thrilled about the kids sleeping arrangement, as far as I can tell.

My DD7 is such a crazy sleeper I am sure she will fall off the lower bed! We would never let her on the upper bunk. That means my 100 lb big DS 9 will be sleeping on top.

As a nervous mother, I am worried he will fall off too! Is the top bunk safe enough for big kids also?

If I get really nervous - which I admit I do! - can I take the mattress off the bunk and place it on the floor?

Don't laugh - I am wondering - not worrying - about this. I am sure we will love our 1st cruise - but I am not sure I am understanding the sleeping arrangements.

My DS11 slept on the top bunk and my DD6 slept on the bottom and they were both fine. The bunks are pretty wide and the top bunk has a rail. The bottom bunk is actually very low to the ground, but if you are concerned you could ask them if there is a rail for the bottom bunk as well. I totally understand being a nervous Mom as I am one also. I am sure the bunks will work fine for your kids. You will have a wonderful time!

Don't worry. My DD7 slept on top and DD3 slept on bottom...no problems. We also requested bed rail for bottom bunk but really had no need...the top has a small lip rail. The girls loved it. It was a thrill!

My DS was 13, 120 pounds, 5 foot 2 inches tall.....
and slept very comfortably in the top bunk. He's also a restless sleeper.

My friends 5 yr old fell out of the upper bunk a few weeks ago on the Wonder. No injuries, but he did fall out.

I read somewhere that you can ask for an extra rail for the upper bed if that will make you feel better. My DDs 9 and 6 took turns sleeping in the upper beds and we had no problems.

First: Let me reiterate that the lower bed is quite low. While we initially requested bed rails for our 2yo, once we saw the height of the bed, we removed them and never used them again.

Second: With a quick Google, you'll find references that suggest children younger than 6 should not sleep in the top bunk of a bunk bed.

My DS 5 slept on the top bunk in Cat 8 room and never fell out, the rail combined with tightly tucking him in kept him in place, and he moves around A LOT when he sleeps.

We did use a bed rail for the bottom bunk for our DS-age 2, Disney provided it.

I don't know if this helps but our DD(4) loved the top bunk and refused to sleep anywhere else. She had her hair braided and her braids clicking on the wall would wake me up at night thinking she was hangin off the bed!

My DS 7 and 3 had no problems. DS 7 on top with rail and DS 3 on bottom with no rail. I hope things work out for you as well.

2 DD's - one is 3 and one is 10 months...I was planning on not using a pack and play......not sure how to work the sleeping arrangment.

Last cruise only one DD so I never saw the top bunk down. If you ask for an additional railing how does that work - is it ABOVE the existing railing? As much as DD loves to climb I am sure she would love it but she is a tosser and a turner....don't want her to break her neck.

I originally thought so but the eldest is really a "kicker"!! So I would be afraid that she would knock the little around too much.

I don't think I would be comfortable putting a 3 year old in the top bunk, even with the rail there. I would probably still bring the pack and play for the 10 month old just to be on the safe side.

Quite frankly she could probably sleep with us. I think I will keep Princess #1 on the lower bunk.

Last I knew, DCL provided a Pack-n-Play upon request. Has that changed?

Of course the other posiblility is DDs sleep in the queen bed together and mommy and daddy sleep in the bunk beds (assuming they don't exceed what ever is the weight limit of the top bunk).

Our DD 3 slept in the top bunk and DD4 slept in the bottom bunk every night except for one. Had our 7 month old in a pack n play provided by DCL. All did fine and no one fell out. Our DD3 is restless at times but did well with the rail on the top bunk.
