Building Castles in the Sky - an Oct 2012 PTR *Update 9/20- Day 3 Plans!*

If you had to choose between the 2, at which park would you spend the day: DHS or AK?

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios

  • Animal Kingdom

The Segway Tour sounds like great fun. I am seriously considering this as a shared activity for DH and DS.

Yay for booking the Segway tour! :cool1: Haha, I'm nervous about trying to ride one too, that's another reason I keep putting it off, but I've heard they spend a decent amount of time training you and they make sure everyone knows how to do it before the tour starts, so you should be ok! :thumbsup2 You guys are going to have so much fun!

I tried the Segway at Innoventions, and you only ride it for about 5 minutes there. Even in that short time, by the end I could see myself getting it. So I really, really think you'll be fine!

I have always wanted to try the Segway tour! We've never had the opportunity to do it though. What a great anniversary present!

YAY for the Segway tour! :) I'm a little jealous! I'd love to try it some time!

I'm getting more excited about it each day! :goodvibes

The buses should start around 7ish - for people with 8am breakfast reservations. I just mentioned driving because I thought it might actually be easier - and you might be able to leave a little later.

Leave plenty of time to get there in the morning- it seemed to us that the early morning (before park opening) buses are few and far between... but that was also on our trip of many transportation snafus, so maybe it was a fluke!

YAY!! So, what do you think about that early tour? I think it just might be worth having that extra time alone in the morning and then having more time after to tour FW. Glad you have it booked though!!

I'm still debating on the earlier tour... the getting to the park so early is what's tripping me up. I'd prefer to take the bus rather than drive ourselves (Shane would question why we'd drive and pay for parking when we can ride the bus for free.) I worry about the bus not leaving early enough...

I did ask about the cancellation policy... specifically, say if someone just can't grasp how to use the Segway even after the hourlong training and decides she can't do the tour :rolleyes1 But everything I've read about them says the Segways are very easy to master... though I do like your reasoning that there won't be that many people in the park once we get going over to the WS (less people to dodge and potentially embarrass myself in front of...)

Avoid the fountains, and you'll be fine. :goodvibes

I've seen those who have "misjudged" how close they are to the water. Segways are pretty easy to get the hang of, as long as you don't run into things, which, sadly, some people do.

Then again, I can't drive my car w/o taking it up over a curb or two, so I am NOT a good candidate for segway driving.

I think they put that on my license, actually.....:rolleyes1

Sound advice! I will most definitely stay away from all water features! :thumbsup2

And I've been known to take out a mailbox (or two... OK, FINE. THREE.) with my car.

Onsite guests don't have to pay for parking. You could drive yourself, no worry about the busses leaving early enough. Just flash your parking pass at the gate.

That seals it... I'm calling to change our tour to the 7:45 one! :goodvibes

Well, I called yesterday to change our Segway tour time from 8:30 to 7:45. :woohoo: The CM even asked if we had our own transportation to the park... she said it could be a tad risky to chance a bus that early. So we'll just drive ourselves to Epcot, and as Kat mentioned, get a fabulous parking space! :thumbsup2

I'm still thinking about how to surprise Shane. I could tell him Epcot has added a.m. EMH that morning and I want to go... but I wonder that he would question why we'd drive ourselves rather than take the bus ("If EMH are for everyone, why isn't there a bus that early for everyone to take?") So most likely, I'll have to tell him the night before and figure out a way to do so...

Maybe you could tell him that you have an early breakfast planned? Perhaps something special for "Epcot's 30th" or something?:confused3

This coming from the queen of "can't keep a secret from hubby" so yeah...probably not much help from me ;)

Just stumbled upon your PTR and am joining in! :thumbsup2 Love that you're taking a 15th Anniversary trip to WDW during F&W. I celebrated my Disneymoon around that time, and it really is a perfect time to celebrate those kinds of special occasions.
I think surprising your DH with a Segway Tour is an awesome idea. And I think getting a 7:45 time slot is great. Hopefully by the time the tour ends Soarin' FPs might still be available and/or the wait times won't be astronomical yet.

And can I just say...starting the morning off with a Segway Tour and ending at Via Napoli sounds like such a fantastic Epcot day.

HA! I'm the same way... it's going to be a long 6 months. I've already stopped myself from spilling the beans twice over the last 2 days!

:welcome:, Alicia!

I think our day at Epcot sounds pretty perfect, too! Now, if only that day would hurry up and get here...

Not much trip planning has been going on lately… the last few days have been busy, busy, busy. Unfortunately, our schedule for the next month is completely insane. :crazy2: Volleyball practice/games, 3 birthday parties (one of which is for Shane… his 40th!), Field Day, volleyball camp, Teacher Appreciation Week, 5 (yes… FIVE) field trips, last day of school, oldest DD's 5th grade graduation. And that's just what I can recall off the top of my head.

In related news, our beach vacation in June cannot get here fast enough. :beach:

But getting back to Disney-related items...

Our room is booked, ADRs have been made… we still have to buy our MNSSHP tickets. I haven't heard the official word yet, but the tickets were rumored to go on sale today. I know we won't wait until the last minute, but I don't think we need to worry about the date we want selling out so I'm not sure when I'll get around to ordering tickets.

Anyway, to help pass the time until October arrives, here's something fun I found awhile back on Chip and Company... 100 Disney Foods to Eat Before You Die! Here are the MK foods (I'll post them by park/location, and the ones I've had are in purple):

Magic Kingdom

1. Dole Whip - Aloha Isle
2. Dole Whip Float - Aloha Isle
3. Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar - Ice Cream Carts
4. Mickey Mouse shaped Pretzel - Frontierland Pretzel Wagon
5. Popcorn - popcorn carts
6. Hot Dog - Casey's Corner
7. Nutella and fresh fruit waffle sandwich - Sleepy Hollow
8. Funnel Cake - Sleepy Hollow
9. Rice Krispie Treat - Main Street Confectionery
10. Hamburger & fixings - Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe
11. The "Plaza" Ice Cream Sundae - Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
12. Lobster Roll - Columbia Harbour House
13. Mickey Mouse Waffle - Crystal Palace
14. New England Pot Roast - Liberty Tree Tavern
15. Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake - Liberty Tree Tavern

16. Sweet Cream Cheese Pretzel - Lunching Pad
17. Citrus Swirl - Sunshine Tree Terrace

I have had a Rice Krispies treat, but it was at the Wishes Dessert Party, not from the Main Street Confectionery... does that still count? ;) The only items on this list that I'd still like to try would be the Mickey shaped pretzel, the Plaza sundae, and possibly the Nutella waffle sandwich. I don't think I'll ever try a Dole Whip, as I'm not a big fan of pineapple (and what is the difference between that and the Dole Whip Float? :confused3 )

How many of these MK foods have you had?

Wow, you've got a busy month ahead of you!! That beach vacation will be very rewarding when it comes. :thumbsup2

So I didn't do very good at all. :rotfl2: I'm a seriously picky eater and out of the 12 things I didn't try, most of them I never will! I don't eat red meat, hate pineapple, can't eat seafood and won't be going back to the Liberty Tree Tavern. :rotfl2: I'm just doomed to be a food amateur forever.

I probably wouldn't go back to LTT, too... I didn't think the food was bad, but I didn't think it wasn't spectacular, either. I just think there are other places that are better to choose. And I'm with you on the seafood. I can tolerate very little seafood (I'm also a picky eater!) I've seen pics of the lobster roll, and I am sorry, I just don't see how anyone could find that appetizing!

Hooray for a beach vacation!! There is nothing like the waves, some sun and some sand for a soothing, relaxing vacation.

My answers are in red above. Many of these items I had prior to having Gastric Bypass surgery. I am now lactose intollerant, so ice cream and milk are off the diet. I love the dole whip, so I'm hoping, I will still be able to enjoy that great treat. Cheese and yogurt aren't a problem for me. Happy Eating! pixiedust:

I saw that someone posted that list a few days ago, but when I clicked on the link it didn't work so I was curious what it had on it! I've had a lot of those from MK- a dole whip, popcorn, funnel cake, pot roast, sweet cream cheese pretzel. Some of the things on that list are weird, though, like, who cares if you had a rice krispy treat from the Confectionary, aren't they all the same? :rotfl:

The Dole Whip is just the soft serve "ice cream" and the float is the ice cream with pineapple juice...that sounds way too pineapple-y to me!
