Based on all of your raving posts on this page we are planning to head to VB for the first time this fall. My only issue is that a number of you have talked about all the bugs. We have a 6 month old and his doctor says he is too young to use bug spray. Will he be ok or should we make our ressies somewere else. Thanks

Well, how are you going to protect the baby at home in Maine this summer? The "no see'ums" aren't any worse than summertime mosquitos. I don't think I'd cancel but just be aware of concerns. I would look before putting him down somewhere to be sure there are no bugs and avoid putting him too near any bushes or on grassy areas.

I talked with another DVC member who is familiar with no-see-ums since I had absolutely no idea what they were! He told me that Avon's Skin So Soft works to repell them; I am going to give that a try when we are there in June. I think that product is safe for babies.

We were there in June of 99. The only time that we were biten was in the evening after the sun went down. The no see ums were awful at that time of day. During the day we really didn't have too much trouble at all. Of course we were busy moving around and playing in the pool during the afternoons. But I think that you won't have too much trouble until night time. You might try the Skin So Soft that was mentioned before. For the adults try Deep Woods Off. We had a lot of luck with that. I would really pay attention to your baby. If the child gets cranky at all I would get inside. You really can not see these things until they've given you a good bite.

IN SHORT: Yes there are bugs at VB. There are also bugs at OKW & HH. You will not find bugs at BWV because there not smart enough to make ressies 11 months out.

Use Skin so Soft for the no-see-ums.

Ha, ha, Fenceman - that was a good one!

I'm from the Adirondacks in upstate New York. I know little bugs (black flies, mosquitoes, etc.). At least they can't carry off your children like those enormous Florida bugs. Eeesch!
