bug spray in december??

We were there in December one year and it was late (or early morning depending on how you look at it)~around 1 am. My daughter and I got several bites and mostly in the ankle area. My husband and son were fine and did not get bit. My daughter and I ended up leaving an hour early because of the bites.

I have been to Disney 8 times and have never needed bug spray. The only time I ever got bites was on the beach at Poly late at night.

Something always eats up my legs. Locals have told me they its from no see ums. I have extremely sensitive skin though. But because of this, I always take bug spray. I try to put on every day and night, especially if we're going to AK that day.

I was trying to find the appropriate forum to post this under -- this was my best guess.

We are leaving Wednesday for the world -- very excited!!!!

I have been looking at different packing lists and was wondering if at the end of December/beginning of January -- would we need bug spray? It looks like it will be in the 80's during the day and 60's in the evening. Just wanted to know if I should pack some -- I was really trying to avoid having a checked bag- so i want to keep within the fluid guidelines for flying.

Thanks for the help!
I have been to Disney during the months of January, February, March, April, July, August, September, and October. I have never once used bug spray and have never gotten so much as a mosquito bite. You should be fine leaving it home!

my mom got bit up by "no see ums" a few years ago but it was not on Disney property.
it was in davenport.

Got back Friday from a week-long trip and still itchy from bites on my arm and thigh (I wore T shirts and shorts everyday). I was the only one bitten in my family which is usual for me but this is the first time I had any bites in WDW. We had visited 2 years ago also in December and it was fine then.

I think the answer (as you can probably tell from all the PP) depends on how "attractive" you are to bugs. I get bitten in Florida year round, so I always wear bug spray there. The ankle bites people describe are noseeums, which IMO are worse than mosquito bites. They last forever and make weeping blisters. I hate them!

The only time in 10+ visits I had an issue with bug bites was at POR mainly at the bus stop. There was some kind of fly looking bug that loved my legs! the bites lasted and itched for several weeks. Nobody else in the family got bit but me.

They were probably yellow fly bites. DD performs in Fantasmic and ends up with horrible reactions to the bites so much so that the other show performers remind her to apply her repellant before the show.
