i haven't really been watching this season. could someone give me a cliffnotes version of all of this season's episodes? thank you.

Well, that is a tough one. Can I suggest you go to www.angelicslayer.com and read up on this years happenings?
In a nutshell, Spike came back with a soul, the hellmouth has opened and there are a bunch of slayer "wannabees" staying with Buffy and getting trained to deal with "the First" who is supposed to be the original baddie vampire.

Check out the site and see if you can figure it out. They have been rerunning episodes already and it has been irratic.
