I know this may sound silly and I can't believe I am even asking it but here goes...

We are traveling with my mother and step-father who are big eaters and worried because they think they read something about buffets not being all you can eat.

So my question is can you go through the buffet line as many times as you want or is it one plate and your done?

Also, if it is one plate only--they want to know if they can pay extra to go up as many times as they want. Also, not sure if it matters but we are on the DDP.

don't worry, buffet is all you care to eat.....even if you are on the DP.

Even if you eat at a Family Style restaurant, you can ask for more of anything that is out.

The only thing they need to know is that each time they go up to the buffet, they take a new plate. The old plates will be cleared away as needed. There's no limit on how many times you can go up to the buffet.

I'm curious. Do they really have buffets somewhere where it isn't all you can eat? I've never heard of that before.

Thank you all for your help. I finally found out what sparked my Mother's question...

When you place an online restaurant reservation and get an e-mail confirmation the last paragraph reads as follows:

At family-style or buffet locations, you will only receive one meal; does not include all-you-care-to-eat. You will be charged the regular buffet or all-you-care-to-eat price.

DH and I were on the dining plan in June and all the buffets were all you can eat. At Whispering Canyon, we ordered the skillet and the waitress kept encouraging us to eat more! Even after we were too stuffed to eat dessert! She also kept bringing DH more milkshakes! There was no effort on Disney's part to curtail our eating at that meal. The same at Ohana.

Definitely not a problem to go up to the buffet numerous times.

What will happen, though, is you'll notice that they will NOT want you to linger too long at the table. They expect to turn the tables over at a fairly regular pace, especially at the character meals. The characters make set passes through the dining room and they make sure to hit every table while the current 'crowd' is in the section they're working. They don't really want to see you still there when they return to your section, because that means the family due to sit at your table next might either miss them OR wait even longer until they return.

I have been to a buffet where it was not AYCE. Buffet is actually jsut supposed to be a meal where you serve yourself, not neccesarily AYCE.

The last sentence refers to special dining needs. They do not get seconds.

Most people will tell you that even on the regular (not deluxe) dining plan, you will get more food than you can possibly eat. We had been worried about breakfast, but at the end of our trip we had a bunch of snack credits left over because we were using our desserts (you can often get fruit or a muffin) for breakfast. We rarely needed the snacks.
I was on a Disney bus one time returning to the resort and this enormous guy, I mean he was BIG, like TWO linebackers, turns to me and says, "How 'bout that dining plan? They gotta be losing money on that!" Everyone on the bus cracked up because it was true.
You will not go hungry.

You guys are great and so helpful! I reread the sentence and you are exactly right.

I told my mom that everyone confirmed they are all you can eat but she is still trying to debate the issue with me. I love her dearly but she loves to be right and has left me with the "I guess we will find out when we get there" line.

Wish me luck- my DH and I are driving down from Ohio with her and my stepfather and our two children!

It is all you can eat and you can go up to the buffet line as many times as you want. Like all buffets they want you to eat what you take and not just waste food.

Never had that problem, never felt rushed to leave at any buffets!! We are a slow family, and yes the characters did stop the second and third time around. We just take a long time and nobody has ever rushed us, we are vets, been 25 plus times to WDW.

Maybe the confusion is with the Norway or CRT setting. Since Norway has a small buffet for the starters and the entree is a choosen plated meal, that may be the thing that the OP is referring to. These places seem like a buffet in terms that it's not a la carte, maybe that is confusing. In this case I don't believe you can order a second entree. As for buffets like Mickey's and Cape May, they are indeed AYCE (with a clean plate as mentioned earlier - and yes I've seen folks take their "used" plates back up).
