Right now we have a trip planned for the last week in February. We will be flying out of Buffalo, NY because it is the cheapest price. We'd much rather fly out of Albany but I can't justify paying that much more.

Are we crazy/stupid to fly out of Buffalo in February? We also have a 3-hour drive to Buffalo airport. The closest airport we could leave from and take Southwest is Albany. If we chose Philly it is still a 3 hour drive for us but at least the drive would be further south and not going north to Buffalo. I guess I'm just a little nervous because I know Buffalo is constantly being dumped on with snow. Any reassurances? I guess it's the chance we take flying out of anywhere in the northeast in the middle of winter....

We drove to Buffalo from Toronto a few weeks ago for our flight and stayed overnight in a hotel before our flight. It snowed all night. I was freaking out. I thought that there would be no way we were flying out that day.

Well, we flew out no problem in what I considered to be blizzard like conditions. Our flight even left 5 minutes early. Try not to worry. I think Buffalo is used to bad weather conditions and they have experience dealing with potential weather problems.

As you say, anywhere you fly where there's snow can be risky. Good luck! :goodvibes

I live near Buffalo and let me tell you, we have not had bad weather in a few years. Buffalo gets a bad reputation because winter weather slams the south towns off the lake, the airport is further north and you won't have that bad of weather. You will take the 90 to the airport and it is well maintained and salted. Unless there is a freak storm you will be fine! And the advantage is that Buffalo is well prepared for adverse weather and can quickly and effectively manage it unlike many other cities and airports.

I wouldn't worry. Buffalo can easily handle any snowfall up to a foot. That's literally nothing for us. In addition the airport will be far easier to navigate than either Albany or Philly.

Thank you! I'm so glad I posted my concerns because you've all made me feel so much better!

nothing wrong with flying out of buffalo we prefer flying out of buffalo than toronto cause of how expensive toronto is so we gladly do the drive.
