We're invited to DH aunt & uncle 50th surprise anniversary. What do you get a couple that has been married that long? My only thought is cash.
:confused3

We just had my parents 50th Anniversary party in April. They mostly got gift cards. They got a $500 Visa G/C from their brothers and sisters to use on their cruise to Alaska. But, mostly they got restaurant ones. They love those.

If you take lots of pics and get your relatives who take pics to all upload to the same site (like Snapfish or Kodak Gallery) you can make them a beautiful photobook of their anniversary party. No doubt they'd love that!

restaurant gift cards were my parents favorite gift when they had their party a few years ago. They were able to eat out all the time and really enjoyed trying new places!

My parents requested NO GIFTS they truely did not want or need anything of course there was those few who just had to give them a gift anyway, they ended up with what to them was more junk that they did not need.

The 1 thing they recieved that they both LOVED an brought them both to tears when they saw it was a poem wrote by my then just turned 10 yr old DD. This was a very mature poem for a young child to write not something you'd expect a 10 yr old to write.

DD wrote the poem herself her older sis an english major at the time helped her line it up an add commas where needed an the 10 yr old typed it out in a nice text an printed it out.

My parents found the poem very touching in the wording, phrasing etc could not believe at 10 my DD could write like that. My mother has written 1000's of poems a few have been published so both of my parents was also touched that 1 of their granddaughters had a bit of grandmas talent.

You could get them a digital photo frame (if they have digital cameras). It's something most people don't buy for themselves, and you can get a good deal on them if you shop around.

gifts cards for restaurants, grocery store, Walmart, etc. For my in-laws 50th they got more picture frames and figurines than they knew what to do with.

I think I will go with the restaurant idea, who wants to cook after 50 years :rotfl2:

I'll be calling to rsvp today and ask their daughter what restaurants they go to.

thanks everyone:flower3:

Good idea to ask where they like to eat. Resturants has never been my parents thing. Last time I tried to take them to eat it was a disaster took them to IHOPs which at one time they did like. Our local one had closed many years ago just got a new IHOPS in the last couple years. THEY WAS NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!

1st there was music playing an it was amazing how well those 2 deaf old farts could hear the music...this is when I find out they hate noise when eating an to them the music was noise.

2nd Dad had to walk to far NOW his walker was in the back of van would not have been no trouble at all to get it out but he said NO we just going inside here I'll walk on my own. It was a much further walk than he thought it would be. Longer walk to the hostess station than we thought then the hostess would not let us sit at the 1st empty table NO I GOT ONE BACK HERE FOR YOU, We finally sat down ourselves an said WE EATING HERE lol.

3rd The IHOPs no longer had their favorite flavor of syrup

4th My parents ordered water to drink it came with ice they don't do ice anymore so waitress brought them water with no ice it was still to cold

5th it was to COLD in the resturant

In other words my treat truely turned into a disaster for them. Yet when I'd ask them if they would like to eat at IHOPs both had agreed that they missed the old one we used to have local.

a bit OT but my parents has NEVER had a BIG MAC or a pizza from a pizza resturant always frozen pizza YUCK on the very rare occassion they do it out it's some place where they can get an actual meal no fast food for them lol
