I'm hoping I can get some help with finding printer ink? I really need to use color ink for a lot of projects and I know I can get it at Walmart and Staples and such for about the same prices but are there any good deals out there? Do you normally order ink online or through the store? I'm looking for HP #61 if that makes any difference in anything. Thanks so much!

Do you have a Cartridge World near you? They recycle and refill ink jet cartridges and are significantly cheaper than Staples, Walmart, etc. If not, what about buying a refill kit and refilling them yourself? My Fil does that for his black ones.

Also watch the Sunday paper for the Office Max ad. Sometimes they put in a brown paper bag and you get 20% everything that fits in the bag. They had this last week or the week before and I used it for ink.

Absolutely look for places that refill your old cartridge. I think here Staples does it but I'm in Canada.

We tried the refill route and did not have luck with it at all. I took about 6 cartridges into Cartridge World, they were all name brand HP. 3 worked and 3 did not. It kept giving an error and saying it was the wrong cartridge. no it wasn't! We ordered on amazon recently for a really good price with free shipping.

When we were shopping for a new printer, we specifically bought one with separate color cartridges. This way, we only fill them when they're empty. Our previous printer was an HP with a "color" cartridge. When one color went out, we had to replace the entire cartridge so we were wasting ink.

We also use Cartridge World. Our local store has a punch card. After you replace 6, you get the 7th one free. Our store has stock of refilled cartridges so we don't have to wait for them to fill the ones that we bring in.

We had that problem when we had an HP as well. I took them back and they said that HP has a chip in them and they must have forgotten to reset it. They fixed it and it worked fine.

The last time I had mine refilled (I think it was Walgreen's) it lasted just a fraction of the time it should have. I just buy new now at Walmart.

We buy ink for our Brother printer at BJ's. There prices are $10 cheaper than Staples, Office Max or Target.

You can try supermediastore.com and see if they carry your model. They used to sell generic and OEM, but no longer offer the generic. Now they offer the OEM and remanufactured OEM. I get good deals for mine, especially if I wait for the newsletter and buy via that. Usually I can get 12 for the price of six (discounted). If I buy OEM at a b&m store, I pay between $12-17, I can buy the OEM remanufactured for about $5 each.

Just one word of warning on your inks. Don't mix and match, especially if you are printing pictures. I did this once and wasted a ton of ink trying to figure out what was wrong. I had stock black and the generic for the colors. Once I replaced the black to the same as the colors, everything worked perfect.

Both mine and my son's inks are not refillable. We have not found a place that will fill them (I have an Epson, he has a Canon.).

I also had a horrible time with cartridge world.

I get mine from 123inkjets.com They always have coupon codes. I also go though one of the rewards programs (ebates, quickrewards, etc) and on average get another 15

Virtually every review suggests third party ink isn't up the standards of OEM ink. Even places like Consumers Reports which generally gives private label stuff good ratings. I'd stick with OEM ink if you're doing stuff where quality matters, like photos.

Carrot ink generally gets good reviews.
