Last year there was a thread with recipes that people serve on Christmas morning - things like breakfast casserole or baked french toast. I'm wondering if anyone has something new to try this year??

Who wants food on Christmas morning when you have all that wonderful candy in your stocking? Candy for breakfast that's what we always did as kids.:rotfl:

Santa doesn't leave candy in our stockings!! I feel ripped off.

I make a very simple (and awesome) breakfast casserole every Christmas.

Make it the day before.

Line a 9x9 glass dish with frozen has brown patties
Layer 1 lb cooked, crumbled ground sausage (or cooked bacon, pork roll or roasted veggies)
In a bowl, mix 6 eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1 tsp dry mustard, salt and pepper.
Pour that over the meat.
Top with shredded cheese

Refrigerate overnight. Put in a preheated 350 degree oven. Bake for 45 minutes - hour until set.

I put ours in the oven as we start opening gifts. By the time we're done, it's ready :) We have that with a fruit salad, bagels, muffins and OJ. Perfect Christmas breakfast with very little effort :goodvibes

Wow, when I was a kid, candy was the main thing we got in our stockings. That and an orange. I think you need to have a conversation with Santa or Mrs. Claus, whoever fills your stockings. I'm actually trying to do other things in stockings now that I have a baby so that candy isn't the _main_ thing. But boy, is it hard to break that habit.

I like the waffles idea for breakfast though. Maybe grandpa (my dad) will make them. He's a good waffle maker.

I have never heard of candy in a stocking, either! Wow! It was always little toys, hair stuff, etc. Hmmmm...I am feeling like my childhood was wronged ;)

We do a riff on the pp's breakfast. Day before, grease a 9 x 13, and rip up 12 pieces of bread and put in the 9 x13. Let it sit out on the counter for a few hours to harden. Then throw cooked meat, chopped veggies, etc. on top. Mix up 12 or so eggs with some cream, a few aquirts of yellow mustard, some shredded cheese, salt and pepper. Pour over the mix. Throw in fridge (covered) for the night. Next morning, put in a preheated 350 oven for a good 45 minutes. Last 10 minutes or so, take it out, throw some more grated cheese on top, pop back in. After baked, broil on high for a minute or two.

YUM!

I cheated and bought 2 trays of Sister Schubert's Cinnamon Yeast Rolls for this year. I may make something else but if not I have those ready to go.

Not really budget, but we do the Pillsbury Orange and cinnamon rolls on holidays.

It's tradition.

:cheer2:

It seems we've settled into a tradition of French toast, some type of breakfast meat (usually Sausage), fruit, coffee and juice. The last thing I want is to make a huge brunch while we're still cleaning up from the morning. We just want to stay in our jammies as long as possible and relax because we go visiting the rest of the day.

I just asked DH if he got candy in his stocking growing up. He said he never even had a stocking. Over 25 years of marriage and I had no idea about that until now.

No wonder he thought my family went overboard at Christmas. We got stockings...

I always got a single package of orange Tic Tacs in my stocking. That's the only candy I ever got. I get that every year still thanks to myself. ;)

I love Pillsbury Orange rolls! And we never have them. I think I am going to go to the store and seek some out.

My kids all moved out, and Santa STILL fills my stocking full of chocoate Santas and yummy Christmas candy! You best have a little chat with Santa!

This is the first year that my kids all will not be with us on Christmas morning. We used to do breakfast casserole so the kiddos would not get to high on candy from their stockings. I think we need a new tradition for empty nesters!

It is just the 4 of us on Christmas morning and we usually do pancakes, bacon and eggs. Oh, and mimosas for DH and I, just to 'special' it up a bit. ;) Cheap and fun!

We have waffles & fruit on Christmas Morning. My husbands family does a full half ham with macaroni salad etc on Christmas Morning, and they do it and clean up fully BEFORE they open presents.

Allrecipes has a recipe of Christmas casserole that we have made the last couple years. It is yummy.
