Bucket List for Mom w/Stage 4 Cancer-UPDATE #267

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your mom is definitely a fighter. My she continue to be blessed with many more prayers. :grouphug:

I also must let you know that I wouldn't wait to take this trip. You really never know what the future holds and how much time you really have with her.

My father is very ill and has been for many years. About 12 years ago, we were told that he would probably only have a year to live. He lived the past 11 1/2 years in pretty good health. It got to the point that we didn't really think much about the diagnosis from years ago. Then about 6 months ago, he just started to go down hilll. When I say it was quick, I mean in mid Aug. he attended my son's b.day party and was fine. About 3 weeks later, my mom told us to cut our Disney trip short and come home early because my dad was really bad. In just a couple of shorts weeks, he was in a wheel chair and could barely get out of bed every day. He's still with us but we now take things on a day to day basis because we don't know how much time he has with us. We know not to expect much because God did give us 12 more years than we ever expected.

Best of luck!

I'm so glad to hear that your mom is finally getting her wish. Remember, that each day is a blessing and you need to treaure it to the fullest. My father finally lost his battle in May but I know that each day we had with him will be forever etched in our hearts. On Mother's Day, I went to his house, and when I was leaving he told me he didn't think he had much time left. By that Tuesday, we had to have hospice care set up for him, so that he could have round the clock nurses with him. On Thursday, I came to stay with him until the the end which was Monday.

So, please give your mom a big hug every day and just enjoy being with her. I will continue to keep her in my prayers.

Bless your heart-I'm so sorry. I'm so glad you were able to share those last days with your father. I know Father's Day must have been hard this year :sad1:

I pray for a safe trip for you and your family! Enjoy making these amazing memories with her. I'm gonna go hug my mom now. :grouphug:

SunnieRN--I will have a car the entire time. Although, it's a bummer b/c parking will cost us an extra $170 :sad2: But, we have to fly in & out of San Jose, so I have to have the car to drive from SF to the airport in San Jose. Wonder how much a cab would cost to take that far???? :confused3

But, anyway--I'm TERRIBLE w/ directions, so I'm taking my GPS & I don't plan on driving ANYwhere while in SF.

You were talking about possibly going to the Aquarium on the day you leave for San Francisco. If you do, go early and leave early! You do NOT want to hit commute hour driving into San Francisco!!!

The drive from SF to San Jose is a LOT of miles to consider a taxi. What I would do is call the airline or the SJ airport and ask them if they have bus service/shuttle service to San Francisco, from the airport. If they do, it may cost almost the same, round trip, but you would save car rental fees that day and a ton of headaches!!

There is another alternative I can think of. PM me if you want to know what it is!!:goodvibes

Thank you! Spending those last days with him meant a lot to me. I literally sat by his bed day and night. Father's Day was really hard and I miss him terribly every day but I am thankful that we always treasured his company. I also tooks lots of pictures this past year, so make sure you do that. I treasure my pictures now more than ever. :littleangel:

That's so great you were able to do that. My husband lost his dad to cancer in March & we saw him everyday for the 2 weeks beforehand. Father's Day was really hard on us b/c DH's dad was his hero. But we are comforted in knowing we will see him again one day.

First of all I would like to say that I am so sorry for you and your family and hope that you are able to make the most of this precious time together.

If you are at all interested in a trip to California, you could really do a budget trip while still giving her what she dreams of.

This company does 2 1/2-3 hour whale watching tours for $35 a person http://www.montereywhalewatching.com/ and this hotel on Expedia is $59 per night and looks really beautiful. It is located close to the Fisherman's Wharf where the touring place is located as well.

There are other things that she may also be interested nearby as well, such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Maritime Museum.

If you decide to go a route like this, I know of an organization that may be able to contact some of the local places and get them to donate tickets and such for you trip. No promises, but they may be able to help slightly.

We did book with Monterey Whale Watching!! Thanks for the recommendation  We would love to go to the Aquarium also ;)

What times do you suggest we AVOID being on the road to/from SF? (Remember, I'm BAD w/ directions!!!) :rotfl2:

We have had a wonderful time & we are now in San Francisco. Please pray for Mom, b/c she's not been feeling well at all. She hasn't been able to eat much & is VERY TIRED. She did get to see 50-100 whales!!!! It was amazing! But, please pray she can make it through this okay. We'll be here until Monday afternoon. Thank you & God bless, Angela

ps---I'll post pics when we get back!

Good luck on your trip. My mom died of liver cancer last year, and the last month or so she was extremely tired and weak and could not eat because her liver was so enlarged it took up lots of room near her stomach. But, she never had any pain, so she was lucky. I wish you all the luck and have a great time. :thumbsup2

I wish you and your mom well :)

My mother died of ovarian cancer last November. We took her to WDW for one last trip in late October. She never left the resort (AKV Jambo) but enjoyed the animals, the ambiance and the food that she was able to eat. She also enjoyed time with two dear friends who had moved to Florida. She had a really hard time on the train ride back home, her sister flew in from California the next day, and Mom died four days later. It was very difficult but I can hold onto the thought that she got to do EXACTLY what she wanted to during her last few weeks.

Blessings on you and your family. What a wonderful gift you've given each other-memories that will never fade. (((HUGS))) to everone!

Praying for your mom. Hope she is able to eat a bit and keep up her strength.

I'm so glad you were able to get to see the whales. I know how important it was to your mom. My prayers are with you!

I have been following along with you story. I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this most difficult time. I was so excited to hear that your Mom got to see so many whales. I know that will be a great memory you will have when she is gone.

What a beautiful story this is. Praying for your mom. Hope you get to continue to enjoy this journey with her.
