Bucket List for Mom w/Stage 4 Cancer-UPDATE #267

This thought is what has kept me going the last four months. I miss my dad immensely everyday but I know in my heart that we will have a magnificent reunion someday.

Amen! God is so good to by letting us say "See ya later" instead of "Good-bye." :goodvibes I look at this life as something so temporary now. I'm trying to become more Heaven-focused, like my Mom was, rather than worldly-focused, which is what comes naturally

I just saw the pictures and want to tell you that they were amazing. Although I have been fortunate enough so far not to lose someone to cancer, my FIL is dying of a pulmonary disease. One of the things my dh is happiest about was that we were able to take him to WDW a few years ago before he became sick. So I know you must feel the same way!

Thank you! I'm so proud that we have all of those pictures! We made Mom a huge photo album for Christmas 2008 of our WDW trip. I was looking through it this morning, and the whole time I was thinking, "I'm SOOOO glad we had the opportunity to take her to WDW." She looked so happy in the pics & I know she had a great time. :lovestruc I'm sorry about your FIL, but I'm so thankful you were able to take him to WDW. ;)

I just read through this thread for the first time... What a WONDERFUL example of the Blessed Hope we have in Jesus...

Thank you for sharing your journey through this with us!

I know, pamlet! I'd be a basketcase without the hope my Savior gives. :goodvibes Thank you for reading along.

I would like to share something with you and the rest of the disreaders. After my mom passed and it came time to go through her closet and sort through her clothes, a friend of mine said, instead of giving the clothes to Good Will, why don't you take her clothes and make a quilt out of them. What a GREAT IDEA... so we started cutting all of her clothes into small squares and we had a friend of the family start sewing them together. We were able to make 5 quilts for all 5 kids in our family. Now, when I see the quilt, I think to myself, hey that's my mom's favorite shirt or I can still feel and touch her favorite flannel PF's. Sometimes, I can just smell the quilt and it still 'smells' of my mom & that's after 6 years. I will keep you & your family in my prayers at night. Just remember you mom is around everyday and all the time. :littleangel:

Wow! This is a great idea, and something that I really want to do. It will be two months on Tuesday that my Mom passed away. Two years ago, she had a stroke during heart surgery (heart valve repair) and struggled through rehab and dialysis. She was doing much better and started walking with a cane. Then she fell off the bed and broke several ribs. That was the beginning of the end. The doctors think she was having mini strokes that led to her falling. Then on July 6, she had a massive stroke in her brain stem during dialysis. She was awake on and off and we were told it would be best to move her to the hospice floor. My dad and I stayed with her that night, and my sister arrived from North Carolina the next day. She smiled at my 7 year old daughter when she was there, talked to my sister and by 5:30 pm she was asleep forever :littleangel: with all of us by her side.

weHEARTmickey - I am very sorry for your loss. It looks like you both had the trip of a lifetime, and one that you will always remember.

Another idea is to make a teddy bear out of the old clothes, or make clothes for a teddy bear out of the favorites. Sometimes a quilt won't last in the long run unless the fabrics are similar (all cotten, all polyester, etc.) Another great idea is to gie the gently used clothes to local nursing homes. My sister-in-law is a nurse in a nursing home and she said you wouldn't believe how many people living there don't have clothes and their families won't get them any. It really perks up their spirits when they get some clothes to wear. ;)

I just want to offer my condolences to you and your family.. I know all too well the loss, as my dad just passed away last week.. I too miss him terribly but Im glad he is finally free from pain.. he has been sick for so long.. he's been in the hospital the last 7 months and lost his fight..

My dad wanted one last trip to see the New York Yankees and me, my husband, my son and step son got him there 2 years ago on 4th of July.. I only wished I could have gotten him there to the new stadium, but he was on cloud nine, so I do know that feeling of doing something so incredible for someone you love and it helps to know that I got to give him that..

Wow. Monday, August 1st will be the one year anniversary of my sweet Mom passing away. :cloud9: Thank you all for your cherished prayers, kind words, & thoughts throughout our journey last year. In October, my DH, DD11, DS8, & I will be re-tracing some of mine & my Mom's steps. I cannot wait to see them experience a whale-watching adventure, along with the fun of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the excitement of San Francisco. I just wanted you all to know what our family is up to  I started a new thread on the California board, if any of you are curious. Thanks again, for all the prayers & well-wishes. Life just wouldn't be the same without my DISboard friends. :grouphug: God bless, Angela
