Hello all.

I am POoh sized and want to take my son who is 50 pounds on BTMRR but my wife is concerned because of how the restraint only comes down so far because of my size. Are there any solutions to the problem or is the lap bar the only restraint on BTMRR..

Thanks!!!

This very situation comes up dozens of times a day at BTM.

Nobody has slipped out.

The ride is designed not to exert forces that would cause guests to fly out of the seat.
(In other words, the lap-bars are not what keep guests from "flying out.")

There is a lot of "sliding back-and-forth" and some "bumps," but, overall, guests
will not actually be "thrown around" too much.

The lap bar is the only restraint.

Yup, rode with my son when I was at 325 lbs, and he was like 6 or 7. He slid back and forth in the seat a bit, but never in any way that made me think he was about to fly out.

It doesn't matter if you're Pooh sized or rabbit sized, either way if you're a fully grown adult the bar won't touch the kid. He will be fine, different people do it all day every day.

This happens day in and day out on this ride (larger rider next to a smaller rider).

If people were going to fly out, it would have happened by now.

Thank you everyone. I think part of her concern is he is three years old although he is 50 lbs and 41inches tall. Does that change your thoughts?

The only thought I would have is that your wife should not share her thoughts with your son. I'm barely 60 inches and weigh maybe 100 pounds on a good day. My husband is taller and has a large stomach. So, the lapbar never reaches me at all. Do I slide a bit? Yep. Do I think I'm going to fall out? Nope. But a child at 3 years of age being told he could slide out might have a different opinion.

You'll be fine. When my DD was little my DH would always have contact with her on BTM, whether his arm around her or whatever. It made me feel better. Maybe reassure your wife you will do that :)

It is sort of jarring to see how the lap bar doesn't always go against little kids. I like the split lap bars on Mine Train much better!

If she's that concerned could she not ride with you? When my kid was 4 they used to let us go as a 3, then with the kid squished in the middle trust me they don't move anywhere!

I ride this, a lot, with a friend who is pooh size. I have to say that I slide around, a lot. And when she slides into me? I really feel it. Some of the drops might be disconcerting for a 50 lb child. I know that I come off that seat, and am practically standing! I would try to keep an arm around any little ones that aren't up against the restraint bar.

I will say that the last time my family rode the Jurassic Park ride at Universal, a very large man was placed in the same row as us. Since he was so large, the lap bar only touched him, not the rest of us. When we came down the large drop at the end, I was thrown into the seat in front of us with such force that my head bounced off the back of the seat. I basically had no seatbelt or protection since the lap bar was so far from from body. I will say now that I think of the larger person in the same lap bar as me scenario very differently than I used to.

OP, no, technically your son won't fall out in the scenario you are describing, but they could be thrown around some. Only you can decide if you are OK with that :)

My kids only weigh 40 and 42 lbs and the lapbars also don't touch them at all when we ride. They slide around a bit but I always make sure to really hang on to them when I ride, because I have had the same worries as you.

When we ride, I always brace my feet into the front corners of the car (left foot into the left corner and right into the right corner) Which ever side my DD's on, I will make sure her legs are under mine so she doesn't slide around.

my favorite childhood memory is sliding all over the place on btmr with my dad. It's safe, your child will love it and remember it forever..

My DS10 doesn’t like riding BTMRR with me because that lap restraint doesn’t reach him. When it is an option he prefers to ride with his sister who is similar in size. I think it is nerve racking to him for there to be a restraint, but for it to obviously not fit and be ineffective.

I worry about this too as my kids are really petite, so I put my arm around whichever of my children is riding with me and hold them close to me. And I brace with me feet, like someone described up thread which also helps stop us sliding around. Doing that I feel 100% safe to take them.

Even in the lowest locked position the lapbar won't reach a smaller child, or even a medium one for that matter. (I can get it down to the lowest position when I'm riding and I'm not even sure it makes it down to my waist either.) Hold on to any little ones and they'll be fine. I hold on to my little one so she feels safer and at the end I especially hold on so that she won't bounce off the seat when it comes to a halt at the end. But she won't fall out and neither will yours.
