What exactly are they doing with BTMR during its shut down?

Good question Seems like it has been down since before Easter. I thought it was due to the Tiana construction for some weird reason .
Hope you get an answer because Test Trak will be going down soon for extended period too

Yes, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom in Disney World is scheduled to receive a full track replacement in 2025, along with new trains, tower reconfiguration, and the removal of cast member restrooms. The refurbishment is also expected to include scene upgrades and the Beyond Thunder Mountain expansion.

It is not down right now. Rumored to go down this fall.
