We tried to book the Orchids brunch for our trip in December, on John and Kevin’s recommendation, but were waitlisted. Does anyone have a comparable or otherwise outstanding brunch spot in Waikiki that’s worth booking in the likely event that we do not secure a reservation?

Good question. It's hard to beat Orchids - happy to see that they have reopened. I'm hoping you get some good responses.

A little outside of Waikiki, but 53 by the Sea is really nice. Great local inspired brunch buffet. It’s over by Ala Moana, in the former John Dominis location.
