Bruce Jenner special

Also, does he use the male or female bathroom while out? At the spa, female or male changing/lounge rooms?

He just doesn't seem very committed to being a female. I guess that is the vibe I am getting. He doesn't have a female name (yet). He says he is not gay? But is attracted to females? How is that? So, he wants to be a she. Well, if you are a female and you are attracted to females, then aren't you a lesbian?

I am laughing at myself, because this is an issue that makes me feel very old and out of touch. I just don't understand the rules to all of this.

He actually does have a female name. He said in the interview he is not ready to reveal it yet because he does not want it released by the media until he officially transitions to a woman. So for now, he refers to his female self as "her." Diane Sawyer tried to get him to explain the "attracted to females makes you a lesbian if you are a woman" thing, but he did not want to discuss that. He got kind of silly and tried to gloss over it. I think he knows it is confusing for people but does not want to label it.

I don't doubt he's sincere in general.
The whole keep the name secret thing, though? That sounds like keeping something on hold for more articles/interviews. I'm pretty sure he's familiar with that tactic.

Well I think he probably wants to save the name and reveal until the documentary airs. Maybe he is under contract to do that all on E, I don't know.

Im going to go ahead and admit I have watched the Kardashian's show and have ALWAYS liked Bruce. He was always a loving and supportive dad on the show.
I thought the interview was very moving and very interesting. Im totally team Bruce. This was clearly not an easy thing to do and I give him a lot of credit and wish him all the best.

I think talking about things like this shows us just how non black and white life is. we can't always categorize every little thing and put a name on it. not everyone is going to fit nicely into their given category. Im sure there are many many people who have felt like this over the course of history but it was just never talked about it. Now it's being talked about and accepted...which is a good thing.

I am with MM, in that there are just SO many major heartaches, pains, stress, and negativity in life when one just can't see and accept the reality... And they hang on to 'expectations'. I am with MM 100% on that one. See the reality and move on. I will just add, however, that most all of the time, this is not as quick and simple and easy as it sounds. Just isn't. Doesn't mean it is easy, or is dismissive, or has some nefarious other-side. It is just the way it goes.

One is not angry when moving forward.
One is angry when they continue to live in a place, where they are stuck on how the past has 'injured them'.

I am also with Sunshine and others who see something VERY off in that interview.
Transgender is one thing.
I have seen the stories about kids who are transgender.
It is mind-blowing.
And, you know what... in none of those cases did these kids seem 'off', 'confused', non-committed, angry, bi-polar, and almost schizo, as I thought that Bruce did. The whole referring to himself as 'we', 'her', etc... OMG.
And the big and sudden changes in mood and demeaner. On moment he was like angry, and answering with that very very pointed 'OKAY'. (all caps)
The next moment he was like more calm and like almost purposefully more 'even' and 'feminine'.

I know of somebody who's husband was D. I. D. I think that stands for Disassociative Identity??? It is like 'multiple personalities'.
People with these multiple personalities often have both male and female personalities in their cast-of-characters.
These people do not need 'transition', they need 'integration'.

And, I don't know if anybody has brought up how the GALLONS of steriods he very obviously pumped into his body during his Olympic days could have affected him.

On one hand he said he's always felt he had a woman's brain but other than appearing like a woman, he didn't explain what he means. He still likes all these things that are typical guy things.

But what are 'typical guy things'? I'm as straight as a girl can get, and I'm definitely female. Never had the remotest thought that I was really a guy. Yet I love baseball. And football. And I'm pretty good at fixing things. Hate wearing dresses.

I also love to cook, and play with makeup. I can lose a whole afternoon in Sephora. And I knit, and crochet, and make jewelry.

When I was little, I had both Barbies and Hot Wheels.

So I like typical guy things, and typical girl things.

I think the point is, there really aren't guy things and girl things. There are hobbies and interests that our particular culture associates with men or women, but that's just our culture, and even there, it's silly and oversimplified. It has not a single thing to do with biological gender.

Humans like to categorize things and people, to try to make them easier to understand. It's never really worked. ;)

Yes, if a documentary is in the works, this is def. a factor.
I would have liked/expected a little something, though.

PS: Just another thing that was 'off'.... He said he would not be going 'Kardashian'... But that little see-thru black dress he pulled out... Really... Really????

A whole LOT that seems 'off' to me.

He did not explain, in any way, what makes him feel he is a woman other than the desire to look/dress like a woman. I guess by your post you don't think wearing dresses, makeup, nail polish is really a woman thing anyways.

In the dominant culture in the US, wearing dresses, makeup and nail polish is usually associated with females. But it's very far from exclusively a woman thing. Very far. I've seen eyeliner on men, lots of times. Isn't tinted moisturizer considered makeup for men? Nail polish is a thing for some younger men. A friend of mine wore a skirt (kilt) to his wedding. And this is straight, non-transgender men that I'm talking about.

And once you get out of the US? Men all over the world wear dress-like garments, and decorate their hands, faces and bodies.

All I'm saying is, it's *not* gender. It's culture. Or not even - sometimes it's just fashion trends.

I think the interview was a necessity in that he has been harassed and bullied into it for lack of a better word. He could either go on record and reveal his plans on HIS terms, or let the tabloid media continue to assassinate him with BS and made up stories.

And for everyone saying they are confused about how he can or cannot be a lesbian, etc. Can you imagine the confusion he has felt his ENTIRE LIFE??? And he isn't labeling himself in terms of his sexuality because for him, he is attracted to women, whether he has a male body or female body. Sexual attraction/desire has nothing to do with a person's gender identity, but for some reason, most people are unable to disconnect the two.

Personally, I think he is incredibly brave for going public about something so difficult. Yes, his family has had to come to terms with the changes that will be happening. So has he. And he has married 3 times, he has had children, no it wasn't entirely fair to any of them, but he was trying to live his life the best he could. Now he is living his life for him. Kudos to Bruce Jenner.

I don't think it's that people cannot disconnect the two. In a way it's more confusing for him say he isn't gay or not labeling his sexuality. If he feels he's a woman and is sexually attracted to women, saying he's a lesbian would be easier to understand with regards to how he sees his gender. It's really confusing to say I feel I'm a woman, attracted to women but I don't consider myself gay.

That's what I thought.

Where did you read that he was on steroids during the Olympics?

I agree, that's never been even hinted at with him as far as I know. Odd the media hasn't been blasting that rumor for years, particularly when he has been in the spotlight again so much the last several years.

There were some allegations during the 1976 Olympics, but he passed whatever drug tests there were at the time.

Then again, all those East German female swimbots passed the drug tests too.

None of the insinuations against Bruce were ever taken seriously, however. Sour grapes from the also-rans.

Look back at the images of Bruce Jenner in the leadup to '76, throughout the games and subsequent years. He doesn't really fit the mold of a roider. He hasn't suffered any of the health crises you would expect after ingesting GALLONS of steroids either. I call sour grapes too.

Look at the images of the East German female swimbots back in the day. Oh boy.

I think it's very hard to say what makes you feel like a woman. I'm also not into most of the things our culture associates with being female - and yet I definitely feel like a woman (and I am physically female). It's hard to define or explain, and so I suspect that's why Bruce relies on these external things.

Hey, I haven't researched, done drug tests on Jenner, or anything else.
But, IMHO, just like those 'swimbots' that you guys are talking about.
I can just see no way that what I am seeing in all of those photos from the day looks like it was not 'medically enhanced'.
C'mon....
I was not judging, seriously, just stating the obvious.

Look at Lance Armstrong.
Even in todays recent history, with better tests and more rigorous testing requirements.
These people know how to do what they want/need to do, and how to not get caught.

I don't see what you see in the past images of Bruce at all.

Yes indeed, look at Lance Armstrong - bout of cancer due to steroid use, check; testing revealed steroid use, check. My tally sheet on Bruce is blank. I haven't tested him either.

Steroid use and testing was much cruder back in the seventies. I have grave concerns about the health and wellbeing of the previously mentioned East German swimbots, although I have no way of proving that.
