For those that have tried this dessert, what is your opinion? DW waited years to try this and finally got a piece of cake last trip. I want to see how your opinions compare to hers.

Used to love it. Recently, the cake has tasted like an outside subcontractor is baking them. They now have some sort of outer covering on it, which is edible but completely tasteless with an unpleasant texture. We assume it helps to keep the cake fresher for longer. In any event, we don't order it anymore.

I voted "can't stand it". Talk about an unpleasant surprise to the taste buds and I KNEW it wasn't going to be very sweet. Bitter and almost tasteless, not to mention way too dry.

Dunno what everyone finds so wonderful about it. :confused3

It was just a-ight for me, dog.

My DH, who is a HUGE dessert lover, hated it. He could not understand what all the hoopla was over it (and after having poor service and a not very good meal, we haven't been back since).

This is one of my favorate Disney desserts. Gota have it!

This used to be pretty good but agree with the poster who said it's gone way downhill. Having said that, I never understand the fuss myself as there are far better cakes around.

Add me to the "used to be good" category. Back in the old days when BD was a nice, quite spot to eat, the grapefruit cake was pretty good. On our last two trips there, it was dry and relatively tasteless.
Of course that was the time they forgot to put any dressing on my Cobb salad--

I think that its clinging to its reputation. Let's go back a few years and start over. As Uncle "R" said, it was pretty good a few years ago.

I posted I can't stand it... and this is the reason. If I want to have cake, I want it to be sweet cake.. this is a little too sour for my taste and I know people love it. To each, their own.

In case you were wondering, DW is a HUGE grapefruit fan, and she was so excited to finally have the great grapefruit cake that everyone was raving about. At best, she would probably respond with "it was okay". Personally, I can't stand it! We had a good experience at the restaurant and I would go back, but there is no chance that would ever be my choice for dessert.

Question!

I was reading this menu page, and it states that Starring Rolls serves the grapefruit cake.

Anyone know if this is true?

Brown Derby really seems a waste for a vegetarian like me, and frankly a noodle bowl before a grapefruit cake makes me think I'll look like this  . So if this is true about Starring Rolls, I could try this cake that intrigues me so much (even before this thread) but without taking up space on a meal I don't really want.

Thanks!

:)

I have heard that Starring Rolls does have the grapefruit cake, and I would assume it is the same one. I have never actually seen it there, so I cannot confirm for you, but word of mouth says it is true.

I was so excited to try this. I wouldn't say I was disappointed but it was not what I expected.Probably would never get it again.
