4 adults, discounted meal, not DDP.

I made ADRs a few weeks ago. We arrived earlier than our ADR time and were seated within 5 minutes. (Arrived maybe 20 minutes early.)
BD was busy, but not full.

We each just had ice teas or Coke to drink.

I am glad we were not on a DDP as I ordered two appetizers for my main meal.

Friends:
DH: Salmon (Grilled Atlantic Salmon on soft mascarpone polenta with gorgonzola, balsamic glaze and Sicillan olive tapenade)
DW: Noodle Bowl with Wok Fried Coconut Tofu, soy beans, sugar snap peas, bok choy, and shiitake mushrooms in a red curry broth. She also ordered a Cobb Salad to share.

My DH: Halibut
me:
appy 1) Blue Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Potato Crust, savoy cabbage slaw, dijon mustard and remoulade sauces
appy 2) Hot soup -- Cream of mushroom. (I forget the fancy name they gave it. But it was basically a deluxe version of cream of mushroom with wine. :cloud9: I asked for the recipe. Hoping to have it mailed to me.)

It did take awhile before we were waited on once seated. We were not in a hurry, so that was fine. But it did take awhile. We were at least acknowledged a few times while waiting.
When we were waited on we were more than ready to order food and not just the beverages, so we did just that.

Our drinks were brought and soon afterwards bread and butter. The bread was just out of the oven so needless to say warm and tasty. It was good bread. Not the best we have had. But good. The butter was soft, which was a nice change from most places that serve hard butter.

A server/preparer came out with the Cobb salad and four plates. Beautiful salad and in no time he had that salad perfectly mixed. It was almost an art form the way he mixed and served that salad. Obviously he had done that a few times. ;)
I passed on the salad but the other three all said it was very good. They each had some and I think there was still salad remaining.
It would be a full meal for one person.

One bad thing is as soon as they were taking their first or second bite of salad, our meals came. So I almost felt like they did not get a chance to enjoy it. No one complained, but I think we were all surprised.

DH said his halibut was prepared with yellow squash and green beans. He seemed to like it. No complaints. (Although he mentioned later the crab stuffed trout he ate just recent at Maya Grill was first class all the way and blew the halibut out of the water. No pun intended. ;) )

My soup was delicious. I love mushroom soup and I don't see it often. When I do I try to order it. It was very yummy. Honestly I would return just for the soup.
My crab cake was very good too. Just perfect really. One larger cake, rather than two or more smaller. Very good. There was a little bit of slaw as the bed.

The friend DW liked the noodle bowl. But there was a lot of it and she thought it was too salty. (Although Chinese food often is due to the soy sauce.) She is like us where we don't cook with salt and rarely add it. So salt taste really stands out.
She really liked the tofu. I was surprised to see a large cube of it. But she ate most of it and her DH tried a bite. He said it was good too. It was covered with coconut and either deep fried or perfectly fried on a stove top.

Her DH really liked his salmon.

We each had a dessert.
me: strawberry cheesecake
other DW: Double Vanilla Bean Creme brulee
my DH: Banana Fosters type dessert
other DH: Flourless Chocolate Cake

All very fancy and very yummy. I really wish I had tried the flourless choc cake after seeing our friends and hearing his description. (I am sure he would have allowed me to try it but I was too busy gorging myself on mine. ) He described his cake as a large giant truffle. It was so pretty he did snap a photo of it too.
I am not a big cheesecake person, but this was different than a typical cheesecake. It was like all their desserts are baked in cups that they turn upside down on a plate. And they have all the fancy drizzlings around which include liqueur flavors. Very yummy.

The friend DH did finish his meal with cappuccino also.

Overall we all walked away stuffed and satisfied with a very nice meal. The other couple was celebrating their anniversary and were wearing their buttons. I was hoping they would get something (besides Happy Anniversary). I was not expecting extra food. But too bad they did not get Happy Anniversary written in chocolate drizzle on their dessert plates or something. oh well. Just would have been a nice touch.

The food was good. Service was fair. (Slow at first, bad timing either on meals or salad, and our bill had to be corrected.) All servers were very friendly and welcoming though.

Right after the meal we went to the Toy Story Mania (AP preview weekend). In the que line Mr Potato Head saw the Anniversary couple buttons and renewed their vows for them! :woohoo: How many people can say Mr Potato Head re-hitched them!? :yay: That's a magical moment for certain.

great review of the brown derby - we always enjoy dinner here - that crab cake is very good, have had it before! - as well as the cobb salad

Great review! I love the cobb salad at the Brown Derby! I have had it as a main entree at lunch time.

Great review, we are considering doing the fantasmic package here next trip!

How would you compare the Brown Derby mushroom soup to the smokey portabello mushroom soup at Artist Point? That is my measure for really delicious mushroom soup.

Can't say as I have never had their mushroom soup.
We dined at AP once probably 5 - 6 years ago. It was fine, and just never have returned.

Enjoyed your review very much. :thumbsup2

I was also so excited for your friends having Mr. Potato Head assist them in vow renewal. :lmao: I'm glad they got some anniversary magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Brown Derby does send the recipe could you please share it on the Disney Recipe Thread? There are very few Brown Derby recipes out there, so any new ones would be awesome to get ::yes::
