Broken yeti?

Me too. I do miss the is the yeti dead-i threads and the 'discussion' that followed often ending in people getting called liars and being told to have thier eyes checked.

As I recall according to my Yeti Google Calendar that I created to track the movement of the Yeti, Thursday was the best day of the week to see the elusive A mode Yeti.

Mike Scopa's latest blog post at allears.net has some interesting rumor/speculation on the cause of the Yeti's difficulties and what it would take to restore the Yeti to its former glory.

I had heard the same thing (problem-wise) from another independent source so there seems to be some creedence to it...

I was lucky enough to ride EE in the first months and thus fortunate enough to see Yeti in his full glory. All rides will have to go through some sort of major refurb/maintenance in it's life time.. lets hope that when it's EE's time they will address the problem & 'fix' him! :wizard:

I always wondered about this! In any of the commercials and promotional videos you see the Yeti popping out. I always say to myself I've been on that ride at least 10 times and don't remember that! I wish they would fix it, its my sons favorite ride and would be even better with this effect working.

I think this bothers me more than the Yeti being "broken" does.

I rode EE for the first time in 2010, knowing that the Yeti was there and doesn't move so you have to look for him. Maybe the strobe lights were not functioning on that day, but if you didn't know he was there you would easily miss him. I hope someday they fix him, cause it would be really cool to see him in his full moving glory.

The blog's explanation was one that I had heard in other places, which leads me to believe that it's probably on the right track. Here's hoping some day he'll be working again!

The Yeti was REALLY awesome when AK had extra magic hours, and I got to ride it in the dark! Seeing him CLEARLY swooping down at the car was SCARY! Now we have neither Yeti, nor EE after dark. :sad2::guilty:

I remember going a little bit after it first opened and it was working. It was terrifying! I think I remember ducking thinking that I was too tall and it was actually going to hit me

Same! I remember involuntarily ducking because it scared me so much! (In a good way, of course;))

I've noticed over the years that the yeti hasn't really made any movement in the past couple years. As of late, there has just been the flashing light on it. When it first opened the yeti used to try and grab the train cart.

There's a Walt Disney World - Animal Kingdom video you can stream on Netflix that has video of the Yeti swooping down. My DD is going to be so disappointed that he doesnt move.

I think the last time I saw him move correctly was 2007. It was really neat technology! He did sort of move in 2009. Last year we didnt even get disco yeti every ride. I guess the strobe light was burning out.

Yup, we were there in '07. We've only seen him move twice. When we went back in '09 he wasn't moving anymore but it didn't ruin the ride for us, we still love it!

I saw the Yeti move during the soft opening in February of 2006. I don't remember him moving in April of 2007 when I went..

The soft opening was incredible since we knew nothing about the ride. No idea about the "broken" tracks, going backwards, or the moving yeti. By far the scariest/most amazing ride I have ever ridden. We arrived at AK, saw that it was running, and rode it 3 times!

I find it wildly amusing that sightings of a moving Yeti at EE are comparable to "real life" Yeti sightings in the wild.

The strobe light simulates movement, so some riders might be fooled into thinking they saw it moving (that's the point, after all, of adding the strobe light). But it hasn't moved in years. Also, reports of the Yeti's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Sometimes, when I've ridden the lighting was poor (as some have reported, the strobe light might have been on the fritz) and it was hard to see the Yeti. It would be easy to miss if you didn't know it was there. I think this accounts for some who swear that the Yeti is gone altogether.

They did have a curtain or something up at one point, I believe, so some people didn't actually see the yeti.

Lack of a yeti makes for a rather anticlimactic ride... but on the other hand, perfectly consistent with real-life yeti expeditions. Maybe they could change it to a true-life adventures type ride, where instead of a giant yeti at the end some bow-tied scholar tells you the yeti isn't real.

There are also stories that it used to move (A mode) when the "suits" visited.

And then, a giant furry claw snatches him away.

Aren't there multiple effects that are no longer included with the ride? Along with the stationary Yeti, didn't there used to be steam in the tunnels and a pop-up bird? Sadly I missed the ride in all its new glory, and have never seen the yeti move. My parents got to ride in during an early soft opening, and got to see it when everything was new and working.
