Last Monday, while casually walking to get the phone, I stubbed my pinkie toe on the table. :scared:The table didnt budge. It got all black and blue around my whole foot and it was killing me. So the Doc I work for suggested an xray in case it was dislocated. No dislocation, just a perfect fracture that twisted the top of my toe sideways.(pointing outwards away from my foot) Which is where it is going to stay.:worried:
We leave for disney in 12 days and it is not feeling better yet, so I am bummed. Just wanted to vent.:(

Don't worry, within 12 days it won't be so bad. I've broken most of my toes, some several times. Most recently I broke a toe while also managing to tear the tendons in my foot too. It hurts like a sonofa...well, you know at first but within a week I was walking like nothing happened, although with soreness. By the 2 week mark the soreness is usually gone, unless you purposely manipulate your toes/feet with your hands.
I think you'll do well. :)

So sorry that you broke your toe before your trip!. Did the doc suggest a type of walking boot/shoe to help you walk?

Hope it feels better before you go pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Broke my baby toe after dropping my suitcase on it. It still looks deformed. That was almost 15 years ago. Not a lot they can due to it other than reset it. Or tape it.

Been there, done that twice! Hurt like the dickens! I found that taping it to the next toe helped, and I think there is some kind of bar to put in your shoe, too, but I didn't use that.

I was in my late teens or early twenties, when things didn't hurt as bad as they do now.:lmao:

Elevate it and try ice as much as you can before you go, I agree 12 days will make a big difference in the amount of pain you have.

I did the same thing right before our 2011 trip!!! I was so mad - and worried. A doctor friend told me to tape it like the PP noted. That was trick that saved our trip! I will say, though, it did swell more than it probably would have without the trip. I would elevate it and ice it at night and take an anti inflammatory. In the end, it probably took a lot longer to heal, but I wasn't going to cancel my trip!

I used to go to Disney all the time, and then I took an arrow in the little toe...

I broke my "roast beef" toe (my middle toe) about 4 weeks ago and it stopped hurting about the time the black and blue went away. I'm back to the gym now and it only hurts when I hit it the wrong way. Normal walking...I'm fine.

Good luck!

I broke mine earlier this year. It does take several weeks to heal. When I was at work, walking a lot, it would hurt, but I also HAD to wear sneakers to work, which was mostly the cause of the pain. Be sure to buddy wrap your toes and wear sandals so your toe can breathe. I would also suggest a walking boot for disney. I didn't get one, but I think if you are walking around disney, you will be doing a lot of walking and will need some comfort.

Thankyou everyone! That is very encouraging!:jumping1: My Ortho friend said she could put it in a boot, but I declined. I tried taping it and it hurt worse. Yesterday I just wrapped an ace bandage around the whole top of my foot, and that seemed to help alot more than buddy taping it. I also broke down and took 600mg of advil. I was advised to just take Tylenol, because the Advil (anti-inflammatory) can slow down the healing process for broken bones. The Tylenol didnt work at all. :rolleyes2The Advil worked wonders, so I am sticking with that for a while. It also took some of the swelling down in my foot.
But now I am so happy to know that I hopefully will be much better when we go!:cool1:

I've broken lots of toes. Get some white waterproof tape and tape it to the next toe. Keep it taped for several weeks. I untaped one early one time, maybe after a week, and when I stepped down I felt it break again :scared:.

The worst pain should be over within a few days, so you should be fine for Disney.

Maybe I can spare a little advice having been in a similar situation.

Rewind two years, and it's December 10th. I'm studying for finals and my family is packing for our second Christmas in Disney. When it happens. A quick mis-step and I have a Jones Fracture. I fractured my fifth metatarsal - the pinky toe. Now, unfortunately, the higher the fracture, the longer it takes to heal. Not a ton of blood goes to the pinkie toe, and the higher it is, the longer it will take to heal.

My mom was nervous, and nearly canceled the trip. I was put into a walking boot and honestly, by the time I got to Disney, I was able to walk with very little discomfort. We got an EMV, as although I could walk, I wasn't supposed to be on my foot much. When I laid down, my foot killed me up to the ankle, but I had also sprained my ankle so that may have been the problem.

Long story short, (shorter), I was feeling much better by the time of the trip. Disney was so awesome with the EMV. I got an EMV with crutches holder so I can get to rides with no room for an EMV. When I went on some rides, they transferred me to a wheel chair and had the EMV waiting when I got back.

Anyway, Disney really goes head over heels to help those who really need help. It's unfortunate when people take advantage of this - a reason that made me feel really uncomfortable using the EMV (of course, people see a kid with an EMV and think they're being lazy or messing around).

If you have any other questions, please PM me!

Also, just saw your reply - GET THE BOOT! It aids with some steps, and God Forbid you're in Disney and someone steps on your toe, you'll see stars!

Oh golly! Isn't it amazing HOW MUCH THAT HURTS?????? If I recall about day 5 it gets MUCH better.

One week before our latest Disney trip in June, my parents dog managed to break a toe on both of my feet - at the same time, no less! I was so nervous about how I would do on our trip - we always do so much walking. The toes felt better during the first week at home. I kept them iced and elevated all week - I also tried taping, but it made my toes hurt worse.

Fast forward to our first 2 days at Universal - I thought I was going to die the pain was so bad. I finally figured out that my toes hurt less if I wore flip flops instead of tennis shoes. The tennis shoes just confined my toes too much and put too much pressure on them. The flip flops were much more comfortable, but I was constantly scared to death that someone would step on one of my toes. I avoided other people like the plague!

When we moved over to Disney, the first couple of days were still painful, but not as much. By the end of our 10 days, I was walking normally. I did less walking the first half of the week - taking the boat instead of walking, when we would normally walk. I also let my kids run get fastpasses, while I sat and waited for them. All in all, it was painful, but doable. Good luck!

When my daughter broke her little toe a couple of days before a WDW trip they put a small amount of cotton under all the toes and then taped them all - not too tight. They said to keep her sneakers or some sturdy shoe on to keep the swelling down - that didn't work too well and after a few days she was able to get flip flops on by adjusting the angle of the tape. She couldn't take anything except tylenol because of an allergy to aspirin and ibuprophen. After the swelling went down she went back to sneakers. You should be doing much better by the time of your trip. Plan to take a few breaks to put your foot up if you need to.

Both my pinky toes have been broken. One looks a bit twisted, and the other doesnt bend. I also broke a big toe. I never had a dr do anything more than tape the toes, and I never had any restrictions on walking.

One of the times, I did have to buy a larger pair of shoes due to the swelling.

When my dd broke her pinky toe about 4 years ago, she did get out of PE for 6 weeks but had no other restrictions.

I agree GET THE BOOT! I broke my 4 th toe 3weeks before I went. It was much better by then but a sneaker was too confining. I wore my boot and it was really helpful. It is just a shoe with a hard sole and velcro. They used to be called wooden shoes. My doctor said I could just use a hard soled shoe but suggested I bring the boot along. I was so glad I did. Saved the week! Bring good socks that don't slide around too much to wear under. Hope your trip goes well!pirate:pirate:pirate:pirate:

I just realized everyone is saying "pinky toe". Is that really a correct term???;)
