Broken Toe

Thankyou everyone! That is very encouraging!:jumping1: My Ortho friend said she could put it in a boot, but I declined. I tried taping it and it hurt worse. Yesterday I just wrapped an ace bandage around the whole top of my foot, and that seemed to help alot more than buddy taping it. I also broke down and took 600mg of advil. I was advised to just take Tylenol, because the Advil (anti-inflammatory) can slow down the healing process for broken bones. The Tylenol didnt work at all. :rolleyes2The Advil worked wonders, so I am sticking with that for a while. It also took some of the swelling down in my foot.
But now I am so happy to know that I hopefully will be much better when we go!:cool1:

Never heard of Advil "slowing down" the healing process of a fracture?? I'm an ER nurse and the docs always prescribe some form of NSAID...minimizing the swelling HELPS the body to heal. ;)

I thought that was weird too. I've broken my shoulder, heel, elbow and many many toes and they always told me to take some kind of NSAID.

I wouldn't wear the walking boot for a pinky toe...that is just way too much. I had to wear the stupid thing forever when my heel was broken and no way would I want to deal with that thing for a toe.

Your toe might be sore at the end of the night, it's been 6 years since I broke my heel and if we walk a lot at Disney it throbs, so I usually end up taking Motrin and icing it at the end of a long night.

I broke my pinky toe in high school. My Mom (an RN) didn't bat an eye or do anything for it.

( few weeks later our dog broke a toe and she rushed him to the vet!)

Anyway I lived.

LOL!

Anyway another suggestion.... why don't you soak in Epsom Salts at night?

I agree with PP's about the sandals.... might be MUCH less painful.

have a talk with your kiddos about walking on their own feet (and not yours) while in WDW.... I used to have a problem with that...

Hugs,
Mary

They can slow down tendon or ligament healing--maybe that's what she meant? Too tired to go back and see if she also had a soft-tissue injury!

I know right? Thats what I said to her, but she insisted that its a fairly new thing the Orthopedic drs she works for (she's also an RN) are advising patients.:confused3

Advil doesn't slow healing down. What happens is, like I said, not much blood travels to the toes as it is. Advil actually thins the blood a bit, so this is detrimental to healing a fracture in the toe.

On our last 3 day trip to Universal I broke my small toe 2 days before we left. I had some broken-in hiking shoes what were wide enough at the toes to not press on the broken one. I wore them every day, took Ibuprofen, and iced it at night. Never had a problem. My sneakers were too tight to wear.

Taping it helps. Also, 800 mg (4 pills) is the prescription dose of Advil, so that can help with the pain if you don't have a prescription for pain meds. Just make sure you don't go over the maximum daily dose (I believe it's 8 pills).

You'll be fine. My dad did a week of Disney two weeks after having foot surgery and I sometimes had trouble keeping up with him. :rotfl:

I broke my toe two summers ago at WDW. Stunk!!!:headache::mad: I was able to get around ok but I had pain. I did the toe taping which helped and had to wear flip flops the whole time. I was able to get a guest assistance card too since I wasn't able to climb stairs. They offered me a wheelchair too but I declined.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. Take pain pills, toe tape, cotton, comfy shoes and if you need it a boot/walking cast. :thumbsup2

I swear I broke mine the first day at WDW one trip. Walked on the big toe side of my foot for 3 days and it started to feel pretty good by then. Did Advil and tape as well. But yours is making me wonder now. Good luck.

I used to go to Disney all the time, and then I took an arrow in the little toe...

Hehe, I see what you did there :thumbsup2.

Seriously though, I didn't break a toe, but had a very bad bout of tendinitis in my left foot a couple of years ago. It hurt to stand. It sucked. But, you'd be surprised how much less it hurts just because you're at WDW :goodvibes . It also helped us slow down and take in more things. I very much enjoyed the slower pace.

You'll be fine! pixiedust:
