Broke my arm in MK

We were standing outside of it's a small world, and I fell backward over the curb. There is a huge boulder there and I cracked my arm on it and broke it pretty bad. First aid provided an ambulance to FL hospital, Celebration. I may need follow up surgery now that I'm home. I think I was in the ambulance 20 minutes after the injury, so I'm pleased with the care I received in the Park. The hospital is a different story. Total of 12 hours to get my bone reset.

Anyway, stay away from that rock. Other than that though, we had a great trip. Really low crowds and just beautiful decorations. We did everything we wanted to do, and walked on most everything.

The thing I'm most surprised about is the number of people who have since asked me if I was going to sue Disney. I answer, of course not. It's not their fault I wasn't paying attention. They did everything properly.

In this sue-happy world it's nice to read your response to those asking if you're going to sue (and you didn't let it dampen your vacation!!). :thumbsup2

ouch. I'm so sorry that happened. I'm glad to see it didn't ruin your trip.

I also noted this statement

Thank you so much. I am so glad you aren't going to sue. There are so many people that would hop right on that. We need more people like you.

I think it's great that you are not going to sue. These frivilous lawsuits are getting rediculous. However, I am VERY surprised that you've not gotten any calls (if in fact you haven't) from Disney asking how you are and offering to pay for your doctor bills.

I say this because, even though you claim you were not paying attention, legally they are most likely responsible for the situation since it is on private property and you were supposed to be ther. of course, it's not Disney's fault either but in the courts, the victim normally wins in a situation on private property, if they were not in a place that they were told not to be.

I'm glad to see you still had a nice trip in spite of your accident. Good luck on the healing process. :sunny:

My sister had a bad experience at Celebration hospital when her son fell and hit his head as well. Sorry you did too :( But so good to hear Disney treated you right.

I'm sorry you broke your arm and I hope it heals well soon. Add me to the list that are happy you're not going to sue. It says a lot about your character...especially not even letting it damper your vacation. Feel better soon! :wizard:

I haven't heard from Disney at all, and they did ask us to fill out an information form at first aid. I did write them to give an update, and to compliment them on the care I received.

Wow, I'm VERY surprised about this no call. I think they should offer to pay the hospital bills (trust me, the ambulance alone is going to cost ya).

I have heard of other situations in-park where people have been hurt and Disney has contacted them numerous times to make sure everything is okay.

However, I am happy you are not planning on suing, and think that's the right move.

Sorry to hear about your fall!! But, i think your positive outlook is GREAT.. and i am so happy to hear that you won't try to sue, as you said, it wasn't Disney's fault that you weren't paying attention. (This just sounds like something i would do! LOL)
Anyway, hopefully WDW will contact you and see how you are.. that would be the honorable thing for them to do ..

I am sorry to hear you broke your arm. I am please to hear you still enjoyed your vacation.

I am also glad that you are not sue-happy! Your positive attitude is one to be followed and admired. :)

They did tell us that night they would cover the ambulance. No bill so far. I better not get one.

So sorry you broke your arm in MK! Hope it heals quickly! I am really shocked about this:

I can't believe they haven't contacted you!! It also seems that they could have done something nice for you while you were there! Maybe a free meal or some little thing like that. :confused3

Back in 1991, I sprained my ankle at the Carribean Beach Resort. There was a light bulb burned out on a stairway and I missed the last step. Luckily, it was on the last night of our stay. We called the hotel manager to let him know about the light bulb and he insisted on coming up to see if I was OK. He brought me ice and an extra pillow and said he was required to take a report on what happened.

When we got home, I saw an orthopedist and was put in a cast for 3 weeks so the ligament would heal. I wasn't planning on contacting Disney or asking for anything. My insurance was covering it. But, the Disney claims deparment called me right away and called every week or so until my treatment was done. The claims person asked me to send copies of all my medical bills which I did. Then they offered me a settlement amount that more than covered my bills.

I thought it was handled very well. The claims person was very nice and seemed concerned about my condition. Of course, this was 15 years ago and I don't know if they still handle things the same way. We'll be going back again next week for the first time since 1991. I plan to watch my step very carefully!!!! :)

I am so sorry to hear about your arm...OUCH! DD had a bad seizure at WDW and we also had to go to Celebration ER but we had a great experience...maybe ped's is a little different. Hope you heal fast!

I think you should sue that doggone ROCK!!! How dare it jump out and trip you like that!!!

I'm just kidding of course. I'm happy you're ok and that it didn't ruin your vacation!!!

Poor you! :sad1: I don't know how many times I've tripped on those rounded curbs at MK. Hope it heals up quick!

I feel for you. I broke my arm in three places on August 8 and had surgery on August 18. Not a fun way to end the summer! I will need one more surgery early next year to remove a pin that I seem to be "rejecting."

But 12 hours in the ER is torture! Celebration must not be a major trauma center. I was lucky as we have one nearby and I was in and out within 3 hours (but it was a painful 3 hours as I cannot tolerate morphine so they just gave me a local when they reset the bones).

Anyway - I had to bypass all the big rides in October due to my arm. I am planning to tackle EE later this week!

Celebration is not a big trauma hospital...that's ORMC (Orlando Regional Medical Center)

Sorry to hear you broke your arm
