Broke my arm in MK

My sister-in-law broke her wrist at Typhoon Lagoon. Disney went above and beyond to make sure she got treated appropriately. I took her to Centra Care myself rather than have her taken by ambulance as it was much faster. The rest of the family stayed at the park, where they were all given a free lunch. We also all got a free ticket to return to Typhoon Lagoon with an expiration date in 2030! They followed up with her and covered the expenses not covered by her insurance. It was her first trip to Disney World, and now she is a fan for life.

I got stitches at Disney one time. They took me and my mom and dad to a hospital in an ambulance and we ended up staying an extra day. I dont remember what hospital we went to or how long we stayed there for. It happened when I was pretty young.

DD-16 fractured her wrist last year at Playhouse Disney of all places...she was sitting with her 8 yo sister watching and even though it was not even half full people kept moving up after the show was begun. Poor thing, her foot fell asleep and she fell back down when she went to get up. They had us wisked in the back before we could sneeze. They didn't think it was a big deal and told us we could go to hospital if we wanted. She wanted as she had done this as a child and recalled the pain. They wisked us out and DH made it back with her to meet me and the kids for Fantasmic meal at 4:15. Did I mention this was NYE, lol? People asked us if we were going to sue and if we got free meals or tickets as well. :confused3 Umm because her foot fell asleep :rotfl: I think not.

We have, unfortunately, visited an ER at some point during 50% of our Orlando trips (3 little boys ... what can I say? ). We're fans of Sand Lake Hospital, they've gotten us in and out in great time!

OP, I am so sorry this accident happened. I hope you're on the mend. You certainly have a terrific attitude about it all!

I would like for you to sue for removal of all rocks! That way the park is safer for the rest of us! :rotfl2:

While I applaud you for not being sue happy. I would think disney would still cover any expenses that you incure from hospital bills, if any.

Im sorry to hear that! I hope your arm feels better!

In October my brother got a bad rash on his legs in the magic kingdom and we wnet to Celebration hospital...We def. dont ever wanna go back there. It was our second trip there and while I was there,I saw some guy who worked for Kilomenjaro Surfaries.

Anyway,I dont like that hospital either

FEEL BETTER! :wizard:

I am so sorry to hear about your arm...OUCH! DD had a bad seizure at WDW and we also had to go to Celebration ER but we had a great experience...maybe ped's is a little different. Hope you heal fast!

My DD gets seizures as well. I'm glad to hear you had a great experience at the ER. I am hoping and praying we won't need to go during our trip but you never know.

OT: Many of the walkways reflect an unusual amount of sunlight back up due to a semigloss coating or due to tiny bits of glass embedded in the concrete. This results in sunburn happening faster than you would expect.

Thanks for all your well wishes. I find out tomorrow if I will need surgery. It's been two weeks and I haven't heard a thing from Disney. They seem to respond better to people who stay on site. If we had been on site they would have sent a car to get us back from the hospital when we were done instead of us finding a way on our own. One of the perks on staying on-site I guess.

I think you should sue that doggone ROCK!!! How dare it jump out and trip you like that!!!

I'm just kidding of course.
Why are you kidding? It would be a landmark case. The OP would be famous, or infamous ;)

OP: It's too bad about your arm, but your outlook is great! Also too bad about your ER experience - like another poster, I had a (relatively) great experience at Celebration Health... ending up in the Presidential Suite after only a couple of hours in the ER (because, aw gee, that's the only room that was available). I guess a broken arm isn't "that" emergencial (made-up word, I think)

I think at the VERY least, we need to petition Disney to rename the rock, "okeydokey promentoky" (fine, the word is actually promentoRy, but that doesn't quite work with the OP's screen name :))

They did tell us that night they would cover the ambulance. No bill so far. I better not get one.
It is my understanding that Reedy Creek Fire Department provides its ambulances free of charge.

(I assume they are funded 100% from taxes on the one and only business located within their tax district)

On separate ocassions, my wife and I have had to call an ambulance to our on-site room, we have never been charged for the cost. When my wife had to be taken to Celebration Hospital, Disney paid the cost of my taxi to follow the ambulance, and the taxi to bring us both home.

This story really brightened my day. DON'T HATE ME -- Let me explain. I have worked for attorneys in New Jersey for many years. I have become so jaded and have given up on the fact that there are still "accidents" and people can assume responsibility for their own injuries/accidents. I have literally had to put new clients on hold while I lift my jaw off the floor and bang the receiver against my head.

So, while I am so very sorry that this happened to you, I thank you for restoring some hope that there are still human beings out there with ethics. Now, please don't tell me that you actually have a job, car insurance and health insurance. I don't think I can handle so much in one day! ;)

The thing I'm most surprised about is the number of people who have since asked me if I was going to sue Disney. I answer, of course not. It's not their fault I wasn't paying attention. They did everything properly.
Too many people ignore the fact that sometimes an accident is JUST an accident. Good for you for not trying to make things out to be more than they are just for a payoff! :thumbsup2 Glad it didn't ruin your trip and you still had a great time!

Wow, I have a story similar to the OP's but the outcome is very different. The one major difference: I broke my arm not at Disney, but at Universal. I failed to notice the end of the moving sidewalk in the parking garage. It was mostly my fault, but I have since been back and noticed there are NO audible or visual warnings that the end is approaching. It was very scary, because it was only myself and my DD, then 7, on the trip and I passed out for several moments when I fell.

Anyway, in my case, first aid told me it was fine, no big deal, "don't let it slow you down." I ended up driving myself to the ER (Sand Lake Hospital where I received great care) and my arm was broken. Spent 1/2 the next day at Universal's customer service and first aid stations, they shuffled me around to three different stations and at least 6 different people. They did not offer me anything, would not pay my bills (which was just my insurance copay) and told me that "normally the most we do is offer a free ticket but since you live in Kansas that won't do you much good." WHAT?? I explained that we have family in the area and ended up getting 5 comp tickets. That wasn't really the point though. I would have expected anyplace to be more compassionate and concerned about somebody getting injured on their property, even if it is just to cover their own liability issues. I was shocked at the lack of apparent concern. I was even told repeatedly that the first aid person who dismissed my injury "is very good and you probably just didn't complain enough." HUH??

I guess the point I'm getting to is, if I had to get injured while on vacation, I'd have rather broken my arm at WDW than at Universal. It sounds like they take much better care of their guests.

(BTW: many people asked me too if I would sue. I never considered it. There was no permanent damage done.)

Sorry about your arm - hope you feel better soon. Glad you still had a good trip.

Sorry to get OT, and hugs to the OP for her pain and troubles!

In our local paper just this past weekend, there were articles about two separate lawsuits filed recently in our neck of the woods: in the first, a woman in an abusive relationship called 911, as her boyfriend was in her house and had just killed her son. When police arrived, he was speeding away and officers shot at the car and disabled it. Unfortunately, the woman was in the car, being kidnapped by the lunatic, and was hit by a bullet. She is suing the police. In the second, a woman at a Taco Bell drive-thru at 3 am was heckling the car ahead of her for taking too long. One of the occupants of the car came to her car and stuck his head in, swearing at her. She punched him in the nose. He shot her. She is suing Taco Bell. :confused3

I fell face down at Epcot. I was trying to see the tail end of Illuminations through the trees and stepped off the curb into nothingness, then my father's girlfriend fell off the curb at Universal. Gotta watch out for those curbs, I guess.
