We are thinking of getting Broadband telephone service-some rates say as low as 24.99/month for unlimited calls to US/Canada-any one have such a service(Vonage?)How are the quality of the calls-just like a normal phone??Thanks :)

I just signed up for this tonight, so we will see. I hope someone here has some information on it. OH and if you haven't signed up yet, CALL them, ask for information and then say you will think about it. Instead of paying the $29.99 sign up fee and the first months $24.99 and some other fee, I only have to pay the $9.95 shipping fee, they waived the other fees. I will get charged $9.95 and then my regular $24.99 plus tax fee in about a month for my second month of service.

I've had Comcast Cable phone service for a few months & I haven't had any problems with it at all.

this may be a dumb question, but does the monthly fee they quote you include LOCAL calling as well, or just long distance. i have one of those $54/month unlimited long distance deals with verizon, but each month my bill is almost twice that because of local calls, so i am told. :confused3 is this the same with broadband?? thanks.

I've used Vonage since December and am quite happy with it. I haven't seen any problems at all. The sound clarity is actually better than my land line.

We've totally gone off our land line. When my MIL moves to Florida, we're going to get a virtual phone number so that she won't have to call long distance to us.

I love that you get all the features without paying more, and you can check voicemail thru your computer.

If you need a referral for a free month, PM me.

With broadband phone, it's one price all the time, regardless if it's local or long distance. That's because it goes thru the internet, which is why it's so much cheaper.

Is only 1 Vonage unit needed per household or for each phone in the house? We just moved here and the thought of changing our phone#'s isnt to exciting right now....but my DH really wants to try Vonage.

One phone adapter for all phones. You can either use a multi-handset phone like Sheree or disconnect the outside phone line coming in. Either way, you can use multiple phones off one adapter.

You can keep your current number even if you're moving out of state. right now I have an OH number but when my MIL is settled in FL this summer, I'm adding a virtual FL number so that she can call me anytime without it being long distance for her.

We pay 19.99 + tax for local & long distance......voice mail is an additional charge of about 4 or 5 dollars a month too.......our actual bill is about 35.00 which is far less than we were paying before.

We Have Packet 8 and love it. We have been with them for over a year now. The bill is only $24.99 for unlimited local/long distance and I think the receiver was free.

Its less expensive than Vonage and the customer service is good. I am not sure if your allowed to post links here so do a google for Packet8

We have been using Vonage for over 3 years now. We have never had a problem. We love it. We pay around $27 a month and it gets deducted from my checking account. It is so easy. We have call waiting, caller ID, voice mail. In the beginning you weren't able to dial 911, but now you can, so I really can't think of a down side to it. It works for us and we wouldn't change a thing!

I have Vonage too. Its 24.99 unlimited local, long distance to US and Canada. Call waiting, caller ID, etc...and free voice mail (can access over internet, too!). With ALL taxes and fees, its still only like $27-$28 a month. (cannot remember exactly).

I have had no problems with clarity, etc...only thing is, you have to register for 911 service so they can get your physical address. I do keep a cheap cell phone plan too, though, so if the power goes out we can still call 911 in emergencies.

Vonage is more expensive than Packet8 or Lingo but the one thing that kept us at Vonage is the caller ID with name. DH likes to have the name displayed with the phone number and so far, I think Vonage is the only one that does this.

I signed up for Vonage and now waiting on my adapter. I have checked and it should be here today. YEA!!!!! :cheer2: I can't wait to get it hooked up and start using it.

I was leary about signing up for Vonage, but two things changed my mind. I read that oogieboogie has Vonage, we live in the same state, plus both of us have Roadrunner. When I read that she doesn't have any problems with it I figured I shouldn't either. The second one was the last straw when I called for a pizza on my cell phone {got rid of our land line a year ago} and the girl kept telling me that she couldn't hear me cause I kept cutting in and out. AAAHHH!!! Nothing like giving my debit card # over and over again. After I got off the phone is when I went and signed up.

Now that we are going to have Vonage, going to drop our cell phone package down to the lowest one they offer. With the money that we are going to save, DH doesn't have to give up his digtal cable.

Thanks everyone for the input-One question-so...this phone port-we can still use our old phones just hook it into the port? Or do I have to buy all new phones-DH wouldn't like that since we just got a new phone with an extra handset-if we can - will be signing up soon-I too can't stand our cell phone reception in our area-"can you hear me now?NO!!! pirate:
