Hello Peeps :)

I've been playing around with airfare quotes for next year. Still too early for my dates but indirect is coming up more expensive than direct flights on my searches most of the time.

Anyway, having not flown with BA for a good decade now, I was just looking at their carry-on baggage policy and wondered if this is correct. It came up on a flight checking website and I assumed it was an error, but curiosity prompted me to visit BA's own site and it states the same:

Hand baggage allowance

You are allowed one piece of hand baggage plus a laptop or handbag.
A 23kg (51lbs) maximum bag weight applies and you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin unaided.
Please see below for sizes.

I only question this as, aside from dimensions, the weight allowance is the same as hold allowance. Is this right?

Not sure if the 23kg is correct (it probably is) but they don't weigh your carry-on. I was under the impression it was an unlimited weight, as long as you can lift it into the overhead storage yourself (and the bag is within the dimensions).

We flew BA in Dec 2010 - Jan 2011 and my carry-on coming home was around 13kg - my sister had to lift it for me :rolleyes1

Continental gave us 18 kg per person and with the laptop and all the camera gear plus any heavy goods it weighed 17.odd KG on my hand luggage scales. A very kind gentleman offered to help me put it up but I faked the "oh this is so easy to put up" look and thanked him but declined his kind offer. When we landed he insisted and practically buckled under the weight :rotfl:

Eeeesh, I have so many concerns with BA ..... but save £400 + ..... I need to get the little chip off my shoulder :rolleyes1

Thanks for that. I thought it might have been an error but it makes sense as it is pretty much in accordance with many of the US airlines so perhaps they have gone that route. And £40 for an extra checked bag is better than the $200 chargeable by CO :scared1:

I preferred flying with BA over VA. I found their food to be nicer and their back-of-seat video system is better then the VA Boeing ones (but not as good as the new Airbus system).

We only switched to using VA because it's easier to earn Airmiles with them and leaving from Manchester is a bonus to not have to drive to Gatwick. But I dislike their 7kg max carry-on policy - don't they know that's my over-flow case to avoid overweight bags! :rotfl:

Do they have AVOD on the Gatwick route (BA that is)? Sorry I am trying to search a whole lot of stuff under pressure here as I understand the sale is over at midnight :headache:

:lmao::rotfl2: That is exactly what we use it for. The first thing I check after dates is the luggage allowance. We always flew PE or Business and last year when we went economy, we still had the 2 bag allowance as we booked before the change. so this year was a shock to the system :scared1:

Yes, and it has a really great choice of films, music albums, TV series, documentaries. It's an all touch screen - no remote to mess with. And you can Pause, Rewind etc with your film.

My Mum freaked out when coming back on the VA Boeing that the films started as soon as the screens switched on and they couldn't be paused or rewound and if you missed the start, you had to wait for the film cycle to start over. :scared1:

We have flights booked with VA for January and we booked the Airbus there and back. But we got an email saying the morning Airbus was cancelled going out and we'd been put on the afternoon Boeing flight. Mum was straight on the phone to voice her displeasure at their VAOCNY (Video At Our Convenience Not Yours) system so they moved us free of charge to the flight the day before with the Airbus. But VA said they were refurbing the Boeings and they should be done by September 2012.

Oh Kudos to your mum! Love it! :thumbsup2

I know, we were also shocked after having used KLM and other airlines for international travel when we first hit VA and the old fashioned system of entertainment. I first didn't realize and was thought my remote control was broken

Darn, continue to check out? What to do .... tick tock!

What month are you looking to fly?

If you have 2000 miles to spend, VA have flights in Jan and Feb for £325 return from Manchester  but I know that might be too soon for you.
