Brita Filter Bottle Question...or open for water bottle suggestions!

I have a few of the old Brita bottles and bought quite a few filters for the future. They have worked great for us over the years. I also bought 4 Bobbles and extra filters. They work great, too. I have a sleeve that is extra long which works for the old Brita.

I usually buy a large bottle or a gallon of water and refill it with the Brita water. Works just fine.

I love, love, love my HydroFlask. Heard about them here -on the DISUnplugged board. They are the stainless steel bottles and do not sweat so I don't have to worry about anything else in my bag, or me getting wet and they keep beverages cold (or hot) for 12 hours - no cooler required! When I'm in the parks on a hot September day, I want COLD water.

I take mine everywhere - in the car, to the gym, the office, etc and it stays cold all day. When I first bought it I did a little test - I filled it up with water and about 6 ice cubes and let it sit on the counter over night - probably about 13 hours total. Next morning water was still cold and there were still ice cubes in it.

It's not filtered water, so if you don't like the Florida water you would want to fill up with bottled water first, but we used these on our last trip and just refilled with ice water / cups of ice from CS restaurants. The ice tasted fine to me.

I heard about the leaking and removed the gray ring thing on the bottle and it made for a leak free seal.

As for having to squeeze hard, any filter bottle is going to have that issue .

We used to have one that filtered through a straw (well, it didn't actually filter through the straw, but a straw was attached to the filter, I guess). Didn't have to squeeze or, uh, suck hard. We bought it as part of a fundraiser at the local university's business school, and I didn't think to ask about changing the filter, etc. So, I'm stuck with my Brita. I do love it, though, and the squeezing (although I still feel like a baby with a bottle) is definitely worth it for the great tasting water anywhere!

I got a 3 pack at BJ's (used a $7 BJ's Brita coupon and paid less than $20). They also sell them at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. They are easier to find than they were a few months ago.

I love the idea of the insulated sleeve. I will definitely look for those.

I've been using a Brita pitcher at work and am curious about the Brita bottle. Do you have to just squeeze it to get the water out? I had a filtered water bottle before and it was like sucking a watermelon through a straw to get a couple drops out.

Last year at Disney we used a Berkey Sport bottle. Filter inside. Worked great. My thought is warm filtered water is better than cold tap water, but you can get ice at QS locations. We also really like the Camelback bottles. We have tried Brita, but they all leaked so we returned them.

it comes out pretty fast if you squeeze hard-almost (but not quite as fast) like the Poland Spring "sport" water bottles you can buy. Also, the bottles are not hard plastic, so they are not difficult to squeeze. It may be more difficult for a young child though.

PP, you don't have to squeeze, but if you want more than just a little sip, you do. You can get a decent amount by just sucking, but if you want a nice, big drink, you have to squeeze, too.

Having tried both I am back to the CamelBacks and just add filtered water and ice made with water from the stores. I buy the big gallon ones and once I am back in the room I refill. I also keep smaller ones frozen and inside a cooler for refills for lunch or if we do not go back to the room.

hmmmm. now that's an idea I hadn't considered....I could use my Camelbak as my airplane carryon, and then use it in the parks...

Where do you store it on the rides? Mine (and DH's as well) is like a small backpack, so it would easily hold anything we need for park days if it can handle a hiking trip...

We just had a lot of leaking problems. If they cap wasn't on just so, it leaked. Also they are not quite as big as the other bottles. They use the same filter so we may end up taking our old bottles in October.

As I posted above, I took the gray ring things off of them (didn't need them) and that lets you tighten down the lid a little bit more and it then doesn't leak.
