Bringing your own toaster??

Please don't. In the last three weeks, we've had three fires at work - two toaster ovens and one toaster.

You're on vacation - live a little and make toast at the food court. LOL.

We stay at Pop. We make toast in the food court. Once we even brought our own bread. It was easy. I felt it was way easier than lugging a toaster, dealing with the mess and having to make a space for it in the room.

why bother buying a toaster...use the one in the food court and then use their margerine and jelly! We do this in the morning for our bagels!;)

:confused3

Have your co-workers been trained on the proper use of these appliances?!

I have a toaster in my Owners Locker that I will continue to use on my trips. It has never been confiscated. I use the same precautions with it as I do with my toaster at home.

For those saying toasters shouldn't be/aren't allowed..what makes a regular resort room SO different from a DVC room? They all have smoke detectors, don't they?? The studio rooms at the DVC resorts are almost the same in layout as any resort room??

Take AKL for instance, they made a wing of their resort into DVC rooms that have stoves, ovens and definitely toasters in them? Why would that be so different than the rest of the resorts when using a toaster?? I just don't ge the big deal. If you're concerned about a careless guest, well I'd be concerned about someone leaving their stovetop on in a DVC resort then which can have the same results??

I like being able to make breakfast in our room on some mornings because it saves a lot of time. If I have to go to the food court and toast my bagel I'd just as much get one there.:confused3 Unless you're on a special diet or want something different than what the quick service/food court has then why bother bringing your own food all the way to the food court to make it? I liked having the toaster to save time. Now we just prefer to stay in a DVC resort studio room as much as we can because of that convenience.

You mean, like (especially after the first time) "Don't leave the room while the toaster is operating"? :teeth:

Now, yeah - not that it matters, because an executive decision was made NOT to replace them (the appliances, not the coworkers). But, honestly, I think it's the wiring, not the people or the toasters - and this building is only six years old.

Well, new construction has more current/stronger wiring. Even with the changes at AKL - unless somebody knows there was no change to the wiring, I wouldn't assume the existing infrastructure at the existing resorts was installed/designed/planned to support kitchen appliances.

A refrigerator pulls more power than a toaster, and the values will rent you a fridge, so I don't think wiring and power load are an issue. It's probably the fire hazard issue- maybe an insurance/liability issue? I would guess that it's far more expensive to insure buildings where guests have their own cooking facilities than it is for "just rooms".

This is another case of Disney establishing policy then ignoring it. I considered a toaster for last summer and decided to skip it- but definitely brought along the 4 cup coffee maker!

I am bringing a toaster and I don't get what the big deal is? It will only be used in the AM, cooled down and stored away and unplugged... They used to allow smoking and to me that was much more dangerous. (i.e. falling asleep in bed with one lit) and I promise to be awake while toasting :)

Okay, I am willing to change my, "Please don't" to "If Disney wanted/expected its Guests to be using toasters in the resort rooms, they would provide toasters in the resort rooms".

Since Disney also sells food i.e. breakfast, I have to disagree. If they provided every room with toasters, I think that they would lose more $ in addition to the expense of the toasters themselves. I love Disney as much as the next, and usually a strigent rule follower, however, they are a business that has the ultimate goal of milking every last cent someone is willing to spend there. I am just not going to give it to them where breakfast is involved, and I just don't like cereal and milk or other cold breakfasts.

This is an interesting thread. My point of view is if they really didn't want me to do it, they would make sure to let me know. I plan on buying a cheapo toaster to take with us next summer. I'll make certain that it has time to cool down before we leave the room, then I'll unplug it, and store it away, and if it is a problem, I'm sure they will let me know.

Using that logic, it would be ok for me to bring a pig roaster into my room and use it. Heck, I could even butcher the whole hog in my room, after all Disney didn't say I couldn't.;)

Do you have a toaster in your bedroom at home??

Do you have a dining table and chairs in your bedroom at home? It's a HOTEL room, not just a bedroom.

We always took a toaster, to be honest it didn't occur to me that you couldn't. Of course we made sure we only plugged it in when we used it and unplugged it when we were done, same as at home.

:goodvibes Have a good trip!!
