Bringing The Magic Home - 8/20/05

Donna - Great Pictures!!!!! I watched the slideshow TWICE!

I thought about you guys all weekend, and wanted SO badly to be there with you all! OK - only 77 more days until my CA arrival :cool1:

Hello all. I am now in jealous mode that you guys have your trip to look forward to. Ours was absolutely amazing. I can tell you that two weeks is definately NOT too long. As DISers you probably know these tips, but I have to say that there were a few things I couldn't have lived without- (1) the over the door shoe rack for the bathroom, really helped to organize the toiletries, especially since you pretty much have to take full sized ones for this type trip. (2) the hanging shoe holder for the closet- with our five it took a lot of shoes for a trip of this length and it really helped keep them organized. (3)pop up laundry hamper- I can't tell you how many people I saw wandering around with their laundry in plastic sacks. The laundry rooms were always full, so it was really nice to at least have something sturdy to carry it in each time I lugged it back and forth in search of a washer. (4) Fisher Price Hop n Pop. We were traveling with a 7 month old, and we took this (portable exersaucer) it was indispensible for when we wanted to sit by the pool and read without worrying about him crawling off. It really kept him entertained. Finally, it really helped to mail a few things to the port ahead of time to cut down on luggage. I bought a whole bunch of books on bookcloseouts.com and had them sent to the ship, took some of the weight out for traveling down.

What I didn't have but wished I did- a wetsuit for snorkling in Mexico (that water is COLD). Bug spray for the panama canal- and the lady that gave the talk said that would be more of a problem for your return cruise. Less day clothes, more swimsuits. More casual clothes- I was really surprised how few people actually dressed for dinner, even on the formal nights! I don't regret dressing up for the formal and semiformal nights, but I think most of the capri type outfits I brought to wear during the day were find for dinner as well.

Oh- and if you have kids in the club, be sure and ask them what night they are going to paint pillowcases. They do it with permanent fabric marker, and I wouldn't have sent the boys in Polo khakis if I had known that.

That's all from the top of my head. Have fun! It really truly is the trip of a lifetime.

Thanks EpjenK for your words of wisdom. I will definately pack my bug spray as the mosquitos love me!

I just thought about the movies that possibly could play while we'll be on board. Do you think the Chronicals of Narnia and Herbie the Love Bug will play? I'll put off taking my kids if that's the case. Any other new Disney movies due to come out when we cruise?

Deb

Thanks so much, Emily, for taking the time to post for us.

Your suggestions of what to bring are terrific; I already bought a wetsuit for my 8 yr old DD, but I wasn't sure whether to bring it or not. You helped me make up my mind. :sunny:

I'll also TRY to contain the amount of clothing I bring - it's HARD though! I keep thinking of different outfits I HAVE to have with me! :rotfl2:

I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise!!!!

Thanks for mentioning the bug spray - I hadn't thought of that. I noticed in a magazine the other day that llbean has bug resistent clothes! I went to their website and they have t shirts, long sleeve shirts etc. I wonder if they work?
Donna - I'm not sure if my boys are on your list DS10 and DS8. I have been on a couple of the DIS lists but not sure I am up to date.

Diane:

And with your boys we have 8-13 covered :cool1:

Michelle,

I'm so glad there will boys the same age. Those preteen and teen years are tough. They are so awkward with each other.

Now just to find a little boy around the age of 13 for my oldest. He is the one who is shy, but wants to hang around others...

Deb

Hi Deb
My DS (8) is Danny too! Although he is just starting to sometimes ask to be called Dan!
Had to do more shopping for the cruise today! I'd better call work and get some more shifts LOL
Diane

Diane,

Thats funny :)

My Danny has said nothing about being called Dan yet. You never know though. I am ready for him to ask me and I'll say "No, you'll always be my Danny boy"

Talking about clothing...how is everyone going to dress their kids at dinner? Only Kakis? How about short Kakis with a button up or collar shirt?

Deb

I just picked up the AVON - Suncreen with Bug repellant in it (white bottle - SPF 30) should be good for canal day.

It was so nice meeting Tracy, Donna, Barbara & DH on Saturday greeting the Magic. I also have pictures of the Magic coming in & going out on Saturday, but I do not know how to post them.
After leaving everyone Sat morning, I took the girls, daughter Lori and granddaughter Alex to breakfast. We then went over to Long Beach & enjoyed the Aquarium of the Pacific. We were there until about 1:30 and then back to the Port to walk around & eat.
This was our first time seeing the Magic - we are all so excited for our trips - my girls & their girls will be going on the July 23rd Mexico cruise.
They keep saying that I am the lucky one - and boy do I know it. I get to go on a great cruise & meet some great people and some fools too.

The newsletter has been delivered to an e-mail box near you! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I made a change to Arlene's address in the kids' e-mail section. If you already downloaded the newsletter and want to e-mail Arlene, check it out again for a more "accepting" address. (the other one blocks all yahoo and aol accounts!)

Tracy, I'm waiting :rolleyes1 :wave2: :badpc:

By the way, I talked to one of the tour guides while we were eating our snack for the From Imagination to Celebration tour, and she said if there is only 1 parade, then they only have 3 tours that day. So during the off season, there will only be 3 tours during the week not 4.

I'm trying Donna! Cut me some slack :rotfl2:

I will work on it tonight, at least for you :goodvibes . I am missing two of them though, the last two.

Tracy

Wow Tracy, when did you get tagged??

Awesome newsletter! You have outdone yourself!

Here are small versions of the maps referenced in the newsletter. The link to the full-sized versions is available in the newsletter. Each yellow spot represents one DIS family who will be with us this August. I know it's tiny, but there are 135 spots on the map so far! If your family isn't represented yet, please feel free to PM me with your DIS screen name, city/state/country, and how many are in your group, and I'll add you to the map. This is a work in progress!
