Bringing The Magic Home - 8/20/05

Michelle is right, Space Mountain is closed until July. We didn't get over to Tower of Terror, but may be doing it tomorrow. So much to do, so little time to do it!! We're meeting with Donna and Howard in about 1/2 hour and doing the Imagination to Celebration tour. Can't wait!!

DS is now 10, my younger DS is 8. My older boy has always loved all rides - it's me that is holding him back! I told him he might have to do Tower of Terror by himself this Aug (DH won't go on any even remotely fast rides). Or maybe I'll just be brave. :) I have heard that Space Mountain is all in the dark? I do like rollar coasters.
I so love Disneyland - with that plus the cruise to be excited about I'm not sure if I can stand it! :sunny:

Space Mountain is inside, all in the dark, and very little straight lines. Many twists and turns, many ups and downs. No loops, helixes, etc. The DL ride is different from the WDW one, the ride cars are different. It is a great coaster! Tracy, you will need to report on ToT, is it the same as WDW or different.

Don't harass the DL CMs too much, they may bar us from the parks in August. Well, actually other, not us, cos I don't get to go!

Diane, I also have twin DSs that will be 12 next week and they along with DS 7 at the time, insisted I go on ToT last year for Mother's Day. Well, needless to say I hate roller coasters, fast things, scary things in general, I think I had a mini heart attack on ToT. My 7 year old kept putting his hand on my shoulder while I was screaming my head off and saying "are you okay Mom, are you okay?"

Marsha gave a perfect description of Space Mountain, that one scares me to death too! I think the only reason I can go on it is because it is dark and I can't see what is going to happen next. But I still close my eyes the entire time, my boys think I'm nuts. We have a picture from the ride of everyone smiling and arms up including then 4 or 5 year old DS and me with eyes totally shut mouth open in a scream.

Tracy have a great time this weekend, we thought about driving up to see the Magic but figure August 20th will be here soon enough.

Tracy and Bill, :wave2:

Glad to hear you are having a GREAT TIME!!! That is funny what you did to Howie!! Now he knows just what kind of people he is cruising with!! heh heh!!
Thanks for giving Barb my hugs!!

Have fun today meeting with Peter and Jenn!! Tell them i said "HI"!!! Keep us posted and tell us all about it when you saw the Magic arriving today! Must be so awesome to see it!!!

Don't forget the Naviagtors copies form Peter!!! :teeth:

Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning August Crew. The day we have waited for is here, the Magic is probably pulling into LA even as we read. WHich means we will be getting on very soon. I really enjoyed reading their adventures and hopefully there will be trip reports. I believe we will pose an even greater time of Merriment, DCL will certainly remember our little group. I wonder how the other passengers are going to feel, left out, envious, or sane?

Have a great weekend. DH leaves about to for Austria, peace and quiet for a week, here! See you all tonight in chat.

Hey everyone!!! Glad to see we have another thread going on the Dis....

We have finished paying off the cruise (well almost, the credit card bill did not come yet, but I have the dough put aside!!)

some of our Palo ressie are made

Are flights are set and paid off

Still working on shuttle options from LAX to HISP on the 19th and then again from HISP to the ship. Last week I spoke to someone at the Holiday Inn and they said their shuttles only hold 10 people at a time and leave every half hour to the port....at that rate it would take all day to accomodate all the Dis'ers staying there before the cruise!! We may just do a taxi service.

My 17 DD had her tonsils out yesterday and is doing very well!! I am off to the store to see what nice soft foods I can get her. It is very nice to know that I do not have to do anything or go anywhere this weekend except to look after her!!! This will be a great "movies at home" weekend.

My friend Minniemoms (Judy) and her family are sailing today on the first Mexico sailing of the Magic and I wish them all the best!!! We met them on one of our cruises back in Feb of '04 on the boarding line as well as meeting Michelle (lotsofboys)....another fab Dis family at CC!!! (Michelle, that is the one where we met, right....or was it the hurricane cruise...I can't keep track!!)...anyway....makes me think many more friends are to be made on the August repo!!!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!!!

Oh....I have an idea.....we should all make up some business cards on the computer (very easy) to bring on the cruise with us.....with our names, address, e-mail, DIS name, etc. (whatever info you are comfortable with) to distribute to each other so we have a way to stay in touch other than the DIS....business cards are small and compact and I think it will be a great way to have everyone's info....like a card file....of course, as I said before, only if you are comfortable with it and want to!!!

I know I am making up a bunch for the cruise to hand out....much easier than pulling out a pen and paper when I want to exchange info!!

mmouse, I already have cards from vistaprint. They do really nice cards, 250 for shipping only, usually around 10 dollars, which is a lot cheaper than getting them made at Staples or Kinkos, etc. I have printed some with my computer, but by the time I set them up, buy the card paper, cut them out (the punch lines never work) it is just easier to get them from Vistaprint. I love the variety that they have, and they are usually done and shipped in less than 3 days. I will have a pile of them with me for sure.

Are you part of the HISP group with the rest of us? If so, our TA is arramging transport from the hotel to the pier for about 3 dollars per person. PM me if you want her info.

Marsha - I don't believe the TA is arranging a separate special shuttle for our SOF group. Rather, the $3 shuttle is the regular HISP shuttle that goes to the port.

I did talk to the HISP about the shuttle and yes, they have one 10-seater van that they use. BUT - if they know ahead of time that there will be many people using it, they will bring in extra transports from other nearby properties to handle the demand. That is why we have to let TA Janis know (after Aug. 1st) our head counts so she can inform HISP and they can plan accordingly.

Hope this helps!! :teacher:

Marsha, Thanks for the great idea about the personal business cards. I took your advice and went to Vistaprint and got Caricature Cards done for the family. Quite cute ! It was very easy. I can't wait to see them. I'll be set for the cruise now.

Did not realize that, Nancy. But our group is taking up at least 409 of the 60 rooms, and the remaining rooms may well be filled with repo cruisers who are unaware of what they are in for, er I measn who are unaware of the DIS. Even if they di do it 10 at a time, the hotel is about 10 minutes from the port, and we probably won't be let on before whateve is standard in FL, I think 11:30 or so. We will all get there in time. If they do the smaller transport, I will be more than happy to wait till last as my mother is slow getting around, and we really don't need to be part of the crush.

Oh boyt, it's getting closer!!!!!

Hey Marsha....I am booked at HISP but not with group that booked with Janis...I booked a room on our own.

That is good to hear that the hotel will bring in other shuttles or else there could be a mutiny!!!

I have a tons of blank business cards here to use but I want to check out Vistaprint as well...thanks for that info!!

Oh my goodness that is tooo funny! I was laughing while I read it and the boys are saying "what are you reading mom?" That's EXACTLY how I was on ToT. I'll just take extra motion sickness pills this year and try it again :)
Although I don't think that will help the "I'm having a heart attack" feeling that you get on that ride!

I didn't reserve any spots on the shuttles that the DIS groups arranged because we're staying at the Residence Inn at Disneyland - I'm regreting that abit now because it's rather confusing trying to arrange transport from DL to the port. I didn't want to rent a car so I'm not sure what we're going to do.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Dianne. I believe that Melinda (bmwdsny) is also staying the the RI. I stayed tyhere a few years ago, they have a great ppol and shuttle to DL/DCA. Once Mel reads this maybe she can clue you in as to how they are getting to the terminal.

I will volunteer to take any and all kids on DL TOT. I was there for opening day a had a blast. It will be me and DD 13 this time, so a few extra young ones will add to the fun. Now if we can find someone to go on space mountain with them, we are set. This sister draws the line at space mountain. :rotfl2:

Tracy, glad to here everyone is having a good time.

Marsha, love the business card idea. I'll have to check out vistaprint.

Hi everyone! We are headed home today. What an amazing time!!! We need to get lots of sleep when we get home though! That Howard sure likes to talk ;)

I have lots of pictures of the fireworks, some of the 50th stuff in the park, Fantasmic and the Magic!! Will post some when I get home.

We'll be traveling most of the day, I may stop in chat later tonight when we get home. Oh, I almost forgot! I have navigators!! Just the general ones. And one of the commemorative menus.

Everyone we met out here has been great! Barbara, Brian, Marissa, Donna and Howard, thanks! It was great to spend time with Peter and Jenn as always!

Hi Dairyou, welcome aboard this ship of fools, or nut cases depending on your thinking.

Laughed over all the comments about ToT and Space Mt. DH and I did ToT together and both have studiously avoided it ever since. Dh got the middle seat in the back of the car, where originally there was only a seat belt (car type). He had a hat with him and sat on it to keep it safe. Once the ride was over he stood up and started looking for the hat. It was on the floor at the end of the car. I knew right then that we wouldn't be doing that again. As for Space Mt. I have ridden it twice. Amazing the prayers you can remember when your life flashes before your closed eyes. :rotfl2::faint::scared:

Cruise is paid, Palo ressies done (1 dinner, 1 brunch and 1 tea). My massage is booked now if we could just get to the excursions. Just get a nice red message about not being able to go there. Guess maybe we'll have to bite the bullet and actually call DCL.

Tracy - it sounds like you had a great time! I'd love to see those navigators - is there any way to post them? Does that menu you have look yummy?
For fireworks did you see Fantasmic? I've never seen it and was kind of thinking about booking the buffet to get good seats. I don't know - its alot of $$ for 4 people, and we don't really need the desserts since we'll have plenty of that on the ship! :mickeybar

Hey Deb! Welcome to the cruise. I know you from the topper exchange, right? Anyhow, email winotracy (twhipple@fastmail.fm) and she will get you on the newsletter list. Unlike the westbounders, we don't have a lot of actvities planned, except for an informal meet right after boat drill, a meet on Sunday planned by Mark of Mark and Sandra, and general frivolity. Oh some early morning walks on sea days, and hopefully taking advantage of all the activities DCL will be having.

I saw another newbie lurker coming out to see us on the "Live" thread, JDSski, we will have to get them over here too!
