We'll have iPads for the girls to use on the plane, and possibly my laptop because my daughter is taking an online class that starts the week we're there. Are the safes in the room large enough to store these? Thanks!

The laptop probably won't fit in the safe. Possibly, but probably not. We take laptops (yep, usually more than one) with us every trip. We leave them right out on the desk and have never, ever had a problem.

You'll be fine with the iPad's but probably not the laptop. And I doubt you will fit much more in than the 2 iPads either. The safes are soooo small!!!

We found that 2 iPads in large OtterBox cases will fit in the safe at WL, but we also have had no problem leaving them or a laptop out on the table. Our thought is that we want to see if the laptop is there so we can report if there is any issue, but the chances of anything happening are very remote. Have a great stay in a wonderful resort.

We have fit 2 large ipads, 1 kindle fire or ipad mini plus other valuables in the safes at Boardwalk and Yacht Club. Seem small but can fit plenty. Agree with the others though, laptop will not fit. If you don't want to leave it out, you can store with the front desk in a safe there.

The safe at our room in the Beach Club held a laptop and two ipads no problem. But if not, I would leave in the safe at the front desk, never out in the open. Why risk it when it's an easily avoidable problem.

you could always try one of those laptop locks? I am sure there is something in the room that you can lock it to if you're really that worried. I used them back in college, but never for WDW.

We leave ours out as well but put something on top of them so they aren't exactly "out in the open". My husband had a good laugh when I put mine into the dresser drawer - I just detached the laptop form the power cord which was connected to a power strip and he said, "now, do you really think someone who is in here to steal a laptop won't notice the power strip and then power cord?" And then after he stopped laughing he asked just where we were going to store the laptop cases we had in the room since, in his booming voice, "THEY ARE RIGHT THERE!" I had to admit - yep, unless I wanted to run down to the front desk every single day, maybe four times in a day - once when we left, once when we came back for a break, once when we left after the break, and then again when we came back from the parks for the evening, I was just going to have to trust people.

But others will disagree.

We're staying at Wilderness Lodge.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!

It's been a few years since I stayed at WL. At that time, they had the small wall safes. They did not hold very much.

Our last stays were at the CR and Poly. Both resorts had been upgraded to the standing safes in the closets. You didn't need a key as you set your own code. My dd's 17" laptop fit, along with my ipad, kindle, etc. Plenty of room.

I'd check on the WL FAQ thread (now found in the resorts community board) to see if the safes have been upgraded.

I've read that many people will lock things inside of a large suitcase. You can also get a laptop lock and lock it to the wire shelving in the closet.

Personally, I would not leave anything out in the open. Why risk temptation.

I agree. In 1998 we had a bag of prescription meds stolen from our bathroom at the Contemporary. It was either housekeeping or someone walking by while it was being cleaned and snagged the bag of the bathroom counter near the door.

On the occasion I carry my laptop, when out of the room, I simply put it back in it's carrying case, then slide it deep under the bed. While I know this won't prevent it from being stolen, I figure this at least eliminates some easy temptation. I'm not so cautious as to lock it up somewhere, but I'm also not so careless as to leave it out in the open, either.

Wowzers.

So it's not the people who are in there with a reason to be in there, that you need to worry about. (I'm not saying that Housekeeping never steals stuff, but it's pretty darned obvious if they do, since they know who is cleaning what room) It's the people passing by while the Housekeeper has your door open while working in your neighbor's room that you have to worry about. Someone passing by opportunistically isn't going to go searching. They might see the cords, but they don't know WHERE you've hidden the laptop. It might be in the safe, it might be under the bed, under a pillow, in a drawer, etc. Those people will pass on by and go to a room with stuff out on the desk.

I agree with YOUR instincts, and seriously disagree with your husband and also how he communicated it to you. The nicest thing for him to do would have been to unplug the cords and put the cases elsewhere. That would have been the safest.

I respect your opinion.
