So I hear it will be cheaper to ship food, snacks, and drinks out to our resort rather then buy the DDP or go out everynight of our 9 days there(that just gives me a headache with all those costs!!:headache:).

My question is what are some good snacks and food to ship and how far in advance do you ship everything?

This is an Anniversary trip for just the two of us and I just wanted to know some good hotel friendly meals and park friendly snacks. Are meats and alcohol ok to bring?

Thanks in adanvce for your help!

So far I have:
Snacks: Nuts, dried fruit, oranges, crackers, apples, edamame, pretzels

Meals: Poptarts, cereal, bread, frozen potpie, some frozen veggies, deli meat, cheese, bagels, hot dogs, PB&J, popcorn

By Villa, do you mean a DVC room? And if so, are you in a studio or a one-bedroom? It makes a difference as far as what you have available. A studio has a microwave, toaster and a small fridge/freezer available. A one-bedroom (or larger) has a full kitchen.

If shipping food items, I would suggest Federal Express ground. The rates are great and they usually deliver in 2-3 days. The problem with shipping food and/or items is if you ship stuff back home, you could incur an increase in shipping fees.

I shipped a box to the Boardwalk Villas -- using my corporate account and paid a very inexpensive price to ship the box to WDW. Even though I used my own shipping label and requested I be billed to ship items back home, I suffered a surcharge taxed onto my package by Disney of more than twice of what I should have paid to ship the box back home.

For me -- going on vacation means not having to cook. I love the Basic Dining Plan. But that's just me. :)

This is a very good point to bring up.

Prior to our DVC membership when we stayed in a regular room with just the tiny fridge and especially now with the larger accomodations, we always order food from Garden Grocer. There prices are a bit higher than you would normally pay at your local store but not that much more. They have a delivery charge unless your total is a certain amount. If you don't see something on the web site just contact them and you can usually get it no problem. They deliver within a time frame that works for you and if you are not there they will leave it at the front desk who will even cold store it if necessary. This will save you from shopping/packing the food as well as shipping charges. We usually don't have much left over. If we can bring it home (i.e, snack bars or coffee, etc.) we pack it. If it is milk or OJ we leave it behind.

Have a Wonderful Vacation. :thumbsup2

We are staying in a studio. I would have liked a 1 br but price jump was a bit out of my budget. The kitchen would have been nice!

Thanks for the shipping tips. Ill make sure we don't ship much back as it seems disney rips you off.

Do you think the grocery store delivery outways the costs of shipping goods? I just heard that is very costly and id rather go through the hastle of shipping something out.

But as far as groceries what are some good ideas of things to get to keep in the hotel??

I think shipping from hom eis a pain unless it is like a costco thing of water bottles. I would stick to the grocery store delivery :goodvibes

Are you planning to ship the bolded items? Between the weight and the dry ice needed to keep things cold, the cost would be astronomical.

If you are not planning to ship the cold/heavy items but intend to purchase them in Orlando, then I suggest just buying the other items when you get there as well.

I noticed that you are from southern California. The cost of grocery service might offset the cost of shipping, depending on the weight of your package. I haven't shipped anything (Arizona to WDW) since 2007, but the cost typically was around $15 to $20 for about 10 to 15 lbs (FedEx ground). Allow at least a week--longer if you will be travelling during the holidays. You want the package to arrive two or three days before you do--not afterwards! *LOL*

If I'm shipping other things, I'll usually send a partially used tube of toothpaste and dump it in the trash when leaving. I do that with a few products where I can gauge the amount I'll need during our typical 10- to 12-night WDW visit. I do pack some travel-sized items in my carry-on--just in case! :)
