Bringing soft sided coolers on board

Hi Everyone - I am so confused. We are going to be going on the Disney Cruise in February. I have been reading the boards, and I am sure I read where it was okay to bring your own pop, water, beer, etc. on board. We received our travel documents and right in the packet it states no coolers. Has this changed?? Please clear it up for me. Thanks . . . .

I took my soft side cooler with me last may with no problems. The steward would change the ice daily and there was no fuss about it. Planning on taking it again when we go on the 3/02 7-day.

I had a small soft sided cooler that we filled with ice and 6 sodas and took to Magen's Bay in St Thomas. I brought a freezer weight ziplock back for the ice, which we got from our ice bucket, to put in the cooler. No water dripping this way if the bag wasn't quite waterproof. I think the ban is on plastic or styrofoam coolers. Some early trip reports told stories about leaky coolers on room carpets. I also found if we put a few sodas in our little soft-sided cooler with a bag of ice before we unpacked when boarding, we could move those cold sodas over to the little cooling box in the room and they'd stay nice and cold. The ones we just took out of the case and put straight into the cooling box took 2 days to get cold!

We just went last month. I had stopped and purchased bottled water, Caffeine free diet coke and capri suns for the kids. We put eveything in a small pull behind suitcase and took it as a carry on. When we boarded the ship they had me open the suitcase to prove it was not a cooler.
We like drinks ICE cold not cool and the drinks from the rooms cooler was terrible. I would like to bring a soft sided cooler on our next cruise. I'm not sure why Disney is upset by people bringing coolers.
I can not drink regular diet coke and don't let the kids drink anything with caffeine. So we just bring our own drinks. We just kept calling to have our ice bucket full. Even if I could justify paying $$$ for the mugs none of us would drink that much soda.

From other postings on these boards, the soft-sided coolers are OK. I brought mine last July with no problem. I did have it packed in the my luggage and used it by the pool and when we went on shore excursions.

Okay, now I'm concerned. We leave in 12 days and I was planning on packing our soft-sided cooler with soda and juice boxes and checking it as luggage. Am I going to get in trouble with Disney? Help!

Travel documents do state that no coolers are allowed except for medical/dietary restrictions, etc. By the way, on my recent 1/10 cruise on the Wonder, I overheard some people actually ordering and receiving caffeine-free Coke in the restaurants.

Just got our docs and sure enough Disney does state it in there. I have been planning on the soft sided cooler/back pack/ carryon on wheels we bought months ago just for this purpose.

Does anyone know what there current stand is at port canaveral on the cooler thing?

At Port Canaveral recently, I overheard a disgruntled passenger with a small cooler saying they were just told "no coolers" (even soft) UNLESS they were bringing onboard something that was NOT available on the ship. That would make sense, since much of their profits come from selling what is available at an additional cost - alcohol, soft drinks outside of the restaurants, etc.

Although I'm sure many people bring soft drinks and such in their luggage and get through with it, it appears to be against Disney policy. I could be wrong, but that's how it seems.

When we went in December, we brought soda and beer on board, we just taped it all together and strapped it to some luggage wheels and checked it in with our bags...no problems! When our luggage got brought to our room that got brought along with it. We did not bring a cooler but rather used the cooling box which wasn't stellar but it worked...slowly. Next time we are getting a soft side cooler and putting it in our luggage...I don't anticipate a problem with that.

I guess there are various ways to get away with it if they don't happen to open and inspect your luggage, but it's pretty obvious that they don't condone it. It probably also depends on who is checking you through. No problem if you don't mind the "possibility" of having it confiscated.

We cruised last month on the Magic and had 2 rolling bags with pop, water and beer that we checked through with our luggage when we arrived at the port. I also packed 2 softsided coolers (we were in 2 cabins) and our steward kept if full of ice for us. We took it off on all the islands and didn't have any problems. I also walked on deck with my Pepsi cans and no one said anything to me.
