Does DCL permit guests to carry on liquor?
I was curious...if you cannot consume the liquor you buy in their giftshops in your cabin...why would they be so liberal letting you carry it on?
Just a few tips please, can I carry it on or do I have to smuggle it in? LOL
All of the other cruise lines I have been on permited you to bring your purchase to your cabin. :)

You can carry liquor on board--no need to smuggle. Though I don't know the precise reasons for the onboard purchases not being available until the end of the trip, my guess is that's related to taxes and duties as much as anything else. There's a difference in sales to consume on site and off. That's mearly conjecture on my part. Someone else may have a more definitive answer.

I thought we were able to carry it on. Ive read that people check in cases of beer.
DH will most likely fly down with Piccala (dont have it in FL) and buy vodka in FL. Im getting coconut rum (and sm cans pineapple juice) before we checkin to the Radisson. And um let's see how about some zimas and soda--
I thought I read that each person can check in 2 pieces at the port and carryon whatever they think they can carry until their room is ready.

DCL is one of the few cruiselines that does allow you carry on liquor. We have sailed them 6 times already and on several cruises we have brought wine onboard in Port Canaveral and then purchased bottled liquor in the Eastern Ports and brought that onboard.

You are correct in that if you buy bottled liquor while onboard DCL they will not let you consume it, they hold it for you until the end of your cruise. I do not understand why they let you bring on from ports, but I am glad they do.

We have found liquor much, much cheaper on St. Maarten and St. Thomas than what DCL was offering onboard. We bought a few bottles of rum, vodka, ameretto, etc. for about $4-5 dollars a bottle.

I can't wait until November 30th to drink it Barb! haha
Ya, what is it. I have never heard of it in Canada. We are planning on bringing some wine, cognac and drinks for the kids.

Can you tell I am having a bad day? 5:30am already talking about drinking? I guess my mind is on vacation already! What ever piccala is I think Barb is going to mix it with vodka......It cant be all bad!:jester: Catch the countdown guys!!!!

94 days to go! I am feeling very uninspired at work right now... could it be that I need a vacation? haha
We are planning on bringing a fair bit of "extra stuff" on board, as I refuse to pay $5.00 + for a drink (translate that to Canadian dollars and we are paying $8.00 +).

wow - between us we are sure to have quite a selection! lol
Im planning on buying 1or2 drinks a day for myself and having my own stash - DH is bringing his own booze and cash for his drinks so I wont need to budget for him

So, Barb, what is picalla? We really, really, really need to know! HAHA

piccalla is like a kahlua - kahlua is more chocolately flavored, piccalla is more coffee flavored/not as sweet

I would love to say I am going to be disiplined BUT......
I get real lazy lying out in the sun! PLUS....I am not sure if I will be able to whip up "pinas" in my cabin, I'm good but I'm not that good! Then there are after dinner drinks.....I don't want to be running down to my cabin to fill my sippy cup with cosmos! LOL
Whoops second mortgage for the bar tab!

OK....who IS bringing a blender....fess up!:jester:

Great idea, only I may have problems getting it across the border..
"excuse me, what is this in your luggage?" "a blender" "why do you need a blender?" "because Disney charges too much for blender drinks on their ship" "please plug it in so that we can see that it works" "right away.... bbuuuzzzzz... hey, how about I mix up a little something for you. Then maybe YOU WOULD SMILE AT ME!!!!"

there is a $15 corkage charge if you bring your own wine for dinner ... which is clearly less than if you bought wine directly from DCL for dinner ---

we bought a 4 btl wine carrier from a vineyard and use that to transport btls ... very easy --- may even be able to buy @ a specialty liquor store

We will probably drink most of our wine before dinner, on our verandah. We may bring the occassional bottle into dinner and pay the $15. I would rather bring wine from our cellar and pay $15 and enjoy it, then pay $30 - $40 for "just okay" wine. It all depends on how many bottles we can get through customs, and if we find a good wine store in FL, on our way to the port.
