My oldest daughter (15) just got back from a foreign exchange program in Cadiz, and I am going to show you a few pictures to get you excited for that port -- she really enjoyed the city, it's very walkable, and the beach is great. The first picture is of my daughter, and the rest were taken by her.

I  your DD's hair - reminds me of my DS's when he was younger. Now its turned to the darker rusty red. Oh well, at least its still pretty - I think. :rotfl2:

Does this mean that you have an advantage over the rest of us and we should all hang with you? BTW, is your DD going? If so - may she hang with a bunch of single middle-aged women? I need a local for a guide! :cutie:

I forgot - she is isn't she? Are you doing private or DCL here?

:) Hi Julie,
your daughter is a beauty,& not a bad photographer!
Sue:laundy:

Thank you! She is an artist (came home with a great sketchbook filled with things she drew/painted in Spain) and therefore can take some nice pictures. I am totally leaving it up to her what we will do in Cadiz, but if anyone has any questions about doing it on their own, let me know and I will get the info from her.

SHE'S my private guide for Cadiz!!!!! I told her since she will have lived there for 2 weeks (and she had several hours free every day to explore) I wasn't even going to research Cadiz. She has told me exactly what we are going to do but since I didn't have to remember, I haven't. Would you like me to ask her what she recommends?

Yes, all three of my daughters will be with me on this trip -- now you've seen Elizabeth and Meredith, you will just have to see Katherine (12 -- the blonde).

Just popping in to say hello! Scott's off to Beijing, Singapore and England for the month before he's layed (laid?) off. Yep, he's really so unneccessary to the company...

We finally got a chaperone and booked my boys to come. Half of us are flying on frequent flyer miles to Madrid. The others are going to Dublin for a couple of days. Should be intresting to reunite in Barcelona and talk (Oh wait, it's me--gripe) about our adventures. I'm leading the Madrid group--don't speak any Spanish. Scott is leading the Dublin group. He speaks spanish a little. What was I thinking?

Oh! Just realized...I have a 15 year old on board and she has red hair, too!

Great! Is she part of the group going to Dublin? There are fewer redheads in Ireland than one might think, but still more than you generally see anywhere else. She could fit right in.

Yes please PRETTY please! I knew your were cool! :thumbsup2
Pam and I are wondering what to do here - if its worth going on the whole day tour. Please also ask her if she thinks it'll be easy hiring a local guide from around the port. If she knows. Otherwise - you may find you have some :tiptoe: behind you.

Cool - I think redhead ladies are Gorgeous! Even though she isn't a 'true' one - Kate Walsh is gorgeous and I love to watch her. Juliane Moore - another classy lady.

I just happen to have the wrong gender for a redhead! :upsidedow

Nope, beauty queen (strawberry blond) is on that contingency. Sarah, the red head is with me and the little boys, two and five. I want to see the palace and the Prado. I hope I don't get lost!

Katey, see picture below, was to go on a one week choir trip to Ireland which would have been $3000 for just one person. I thought that was rediculously expensive, so we said no. When we found they had to change planes in Ireland, I told them to stay a day or two. That way Katey gets a little Ireland and the cruise for a fraction of the cost. I asked her if she'd rather be with her friends--nope. She'd rather do the cruise.

Hi Everyone! Just popping in to say hello. Spent the day running around getting last minute items for the girls- two will start their first session of camp on monday. Needed to pickup more sunscreen, bug spray and water bottles. I now remember why I usually avoid shopping on Saturdays, the stores were packed!!

DizzneyDAnn, It sounds like you and your family are going to have quite the adventure traveling from home to the ship. :)

Here's what Elizabeth told me we are doing in Cadiz: we're docked for a long time and most things will not be open at 8, so we will probably not rush off the ship. (I suspect the long day will help those who want to spend the say in Seville, though). From where we will be docked, we can walk right into old Cadiz. Plaza Espano is very near the port, and later in the day will have lots of markets with local handicrafts and food set up. She says that there is another area elsewhere with big modern department stores (she bought three dresses at Cortes Ingles) but that's not what we are looking for in one day in Cadiz. She suggests heading to the Torre Tavira first, which looks like it is about 13 blocks from the port on the map she brought home. It has a cool display of an old camera obscura, but the best part is going to the top and seeing all of Cadiz. She says it's easy to get your bearings that way.

Then she suggests going to the Cathdral with its gold dome. It is easy to find, and see, she says, and looks easy walking distance from Torre Tavira. After that we are heading to a beach. She always went to Placa de la Victoria, but it's a little far from the city center (more about transport in a minute). Placa Santa Maria del Mar is a little closer to old Cadiz, and walking distance if you like to walk (maybe a mile or so). There are places to eat near the beach and places to shower off.

She often took buses, which she says are easy -- you just pay the .90euro (90 euro cents, and they will make change -- she came home with a ton of .10 euro coins) on board, no tickets required. Otherwise, she also said that taxis are cheap, although you don't really hail them on the street -- you look for taxi stands which are around in old Cadiz and near the beaches.

She warns everyone that many shops do close for siesta (about 12-4, approximately) so that would be a good time to be at the beach and shop on the way back. Elizabeth says that Cadiz is small and easy to get around on your own, and she liked it a lot.

Just curious to see who on here got there Air Fare from Disney .....

If you did , what Day are you flying in on ??

We are going a Day early and staying at the Grand Marina .....

Im just trying to see if any of us will be on the same plane ....

pirate:

We are also using Disney for our air travel. I decided it would be worth it to ensure that if we were delayed for any reason, we would still get to the ship without too much hassle.

We will be taking the last 10-day Med cruise just before this one, so we will leave Dulles (DC) on 07 AUG, fly through FRA, and get to BCN on 08 AUG. There will be a Disney rep meeting us at the airport and taking us, via their arranged transportation, to the ship. I think this will be worth the money for the peace of mind...

When did you get your flight details from Disney. Did you call to get them or did you find them on-line? Wondering if the August 17/18 flight info is available yet? thanks

Thanks for the info Julie. I acutally booked the Bee and Honey Museum through DCL, but we'll have the afternoon to explore. Sounds like we should head to the beach, then explore later in the evening. Good to know that it's easy to get around.

Hi folks,

Had such fun on the Eastern transatlantic cruise, decided to join the Westbound.

It will be myself and DH, John, in room 7576

Will be bringing a fish extender, just need to think of what gifts to bring

Faireygod Mother - how do we pay you for the lanyards and how do we pick them up?
