Bringing food/snacks into parks?

I plan to bring some PBJ sandwiches, maybe chips etc. in our backpack to the parks. I'm assuming this is allowed but just want to confirm. I don't want to get there and have them throw out my food if they search my backpack. Thank you in advance for your answers. JCA1970
