Bringing food into the US

On one of our first trips to Florida (about 30 years ago) the guy in front of us had milk - in glass bottles! :scared:

Even after all this time, I still remember the customs guy's reaction. He disappeared for a while, returned with the empty bottles and offered them to the man now holding up the queue. Then, total stoney faced, he said "do you think we don't have cows in America? :lmao:

:rotfl2: I am TERRIBLE with facial expressions broadcasting my thoughts! There is just no way that I would have been able to stand there without catching myself with wide eyes and dropped jaw when the milk bottles appeared and then dissolving into fits of laughter at that comment :lmao:

I remember checking and double checking this question last year. I took cereal cereal bars coffee tea cup a soup crisps and just ticked yes. All our bags went on a scanner just after collecting from the carousel after immigration.
As long as no fruit or meat , dairy products they are unlikely to confiscate anything but if they do at least uv declared it so no huge fine!!

It always amazes me the people who take food on holiday with them anyway. There isn't a single food item I eat at home that I can't either go without for a fortnight or find in Walmart :confused3

I am the same but having had a child with a gluten intolerance (which she thankfully outgrew) I did used to pack snacks for her for on the flight and just in case there were delays to get us through one emergency overnight. Having had VA forget to load her GF meal twice I wouldn't take a chance.

I won't take anything with me now though. We do want a few things for the room and some toiletries etc as well that I don't care to take over or would prefer US brands and I am just having those delivered to the resort again.

That said, we do usually take chocolate - not to eat - but to give away :)

They might not sell them in Walmart but can you seriously not live without those things for a fortnight :confused3

The Celebrations used to be sold here. I had forgotten about them until you mentioned it. Also, my Walmart here in North Carolina carries many of the Cadbury items that you can also get in the UK. If you haven't tried it yet, next time try Dove chocolate while in the US. It is better than Herseys (though I like Herseys too).

As to the Seabrook Crisps, I have never seen those in the US. I looked at the Seabrook website and vinegar and salt chips would be the closest item. We don't really have any beef flavored chips (crisps) here.

Others were talking about OXO and I had to look that up. It appeared to be similar to a bouillon cube.

When I leave the US to go to other countries I don't worry about bringing food items with me. I just make do with what each country has had to offer. By doing this I have discovered some great things I can't get here.

We HAVE TO HAVE Yorkshire teabags..seriously could not cope without a decent cuppa for three weeks:rotfl: If by any chance you can find them they cost a fortune...But food no..we have no intolerance to anything etc so its no problem. I can just about manage to live without cadburys/galaxy for that amt of time..

My daughter is a tea drinker. I won't take teabags for her as she is happy with iced tea when we are there, but I remember the first time she tried those Nestea teabags. :rotfl: I made her tea and she took one sip, looked at me in disgust as she placed the mug on the table in slow motion and said "This tea tastes like nuffing. You forgot the teabag!" :rotfl2:

Thanks for letting me know. I learned something new today. I only use bouillon when making gravy or soup.

So do I. I don't use Oxo cubes so you won't find me bringing those thru customs. Besides, I don't think Disney would take kindly to me cooking in our room :rotfl:

Yorkshire tea bags and Rich Tea biscuits are the only thing we take with us. I can manage without anything else but I MUST have a cup of tea in the morning and I'm sorry but US tea just doesn't cut it :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Our grocery store carries PG Tips and Twinings. Also if you ever get a chance, we now have a tea store in the US called "teavana". There is a store at the Mall of Millenia and Florida Mall in Orlando.

In the south we drink most of our tea iced and sweet. It is my favorite. In the winter I still drink sweet tea. Every once in awhile I will have a cup of hot tea, and usually it is either Plantation Mint (Bigelow makes this) or a friend will send me a box of Bewleys.

No food but always have to take tea bags, Americans just cannot make tea, tea over there is disgusting. Coffee yes, much better than ours but tea, noooo.

I drink a lot of tea, couldn't go two weeks without a decent cup.

Also for the first time this year we'll have a few snacks as we'll have a baby with us. There are a million reason why people have to bring food with them, even if it's just to cover them until they get to their hotel/villa.
